Sleeping on the floor

Hi all,

My 2 1/2 yr ds has taken to waking in the night and sleeping with a pillow and blanket on my bedroom floor but I don't know why. Sometimes he says he is scared other times he doesn't. Any ideas how to break this habit? He was sleeping fine in his bed and waking to use the potty but now he won't go back to his bed and he screams and screams which I'm worried will wake the neighbours! He sleeps really well on the floor and I don't know whether I should be trying to break the habit or just leaving him on the floor?!?

Any thoughts or ideas welcome :)

Thanks

Leave him for the moment - but maybe keep trying to move him back every week or so... This is just a stage in his development, it will pass

Alternatively, get a mattress and YOU go and lie down in his room for a few days - might help him get used to his bed again

My ds has always had interesting sleeping places, I figure if he is safe and comfy then no real issue. He is 8 now and currently curled up in his cupboard. His 3 year old sister went through a short faze of it recently (mostly copying I think) but has gone back to bed of her own volition.

He's scared that's why. Their imaginations take off at this age. With ds we slept in his room instead so he learned that his bedroom was safe.

How long did you sleep in his room Iggly? Did it take a long time to reassure ds? Thanks

A few weeks I think? If that? And it wasn't every night. We had a few talks about the dark (his instigation) and that if he needed us to just call out and we'd come. Now he's fine and only needs us if he's had a nightmare or is ill.

Aaaw bless him, see how he goes maybe get a matress on the floor in his room for a while to keep him "secure" im currently on a mattress in ds room..... trying in vain to get him in his cot

My DS spent a few months sleeping on his bedroom floor by choice when he was about 3. We pit his mattress on the floor and he slept on that.
I didn't worry too much. He swapped back to his bed after a while.
