Hiya all
This is the bit ive been dreading. My ds is 2.2years, and says wee and pooh before he needs to go into his nappy, and takes his nappy off as soon as he has gone.
We have had a potty around the house for some time, which he will sit on, but when he has his clothes off, he wont go anywhere near it, apart from sticking it on his head!!
So, advice needed.
Do we just try him on the toilet rather then potty, even though the bathroom is upstairs?
Do we use pull-ups, or just leave him with pants and trousers on once he gets into it etc?
we are going on holiday next saturday, should we wait till we get back, or try him for a week and see how he gets on?
Thanks

I'd wait till back from hols. then see thread from cod bout the nappy boot camp routine!

deffo wait til you get back - none of you will enjoy the holiday if you're epotty training!!

don't use pullups - he won't know anymore than with nappies that he is wet. if you;re going to do it deffo go all the way- just pants around the house for a bit...

I've been training dd (2.10) since last MOnday, following Cod's boot camp and it does work It is slow at times, but you get big leaps and so much satisfaction when it starts to go well. we're by no means there yet, but well on the way, and that is all because we ditched all forms of absorbant nether regions wear (lol) except at bedtime and just went for it despite people saying maybe wait!!!

good luck!

Am now proud owner of fully potty trained 3 yr old! yippeee. Would like to take credit but he has done it himself. After taking a long time to get my oldest trained & more wet patches on carpets, couches etc. than I could count, I decided to wait longer with Sam. I made a couple of tentative attempts ovet the past few months, but when he showed no interest at all, gave up pretty quicky. This last time, just two weeks short of his third birthday, we tried & within 3 days he was totally dry during the day. He was just ready for it. I keep a potty in the car for emergencies. Definately go for pants rather than pull ups & don't worry about it, if he's ready he will get the hang of it & if not, leave it a while & try again in a few weeks. It's not a race & if I'd let my oldest guide me as I have with Sam, I'd have had far less hassle. They were probably both trained at similar ages, but what took a long time with Eddie, took days with Sam.

My ds is now just over 3 and we have been potty training for 3 days now. The only way to start is to ditch nappies/pull up pants completely (apart from bedtime). My ds has wet himself several times and doesn't like it. He is now starting to realise that he needs to have a wee and it needs to be down the toilet. Just let them wet themselves a couple of times. The carpets and clothes will wash and you will soon look back and wonder why all the panic. Before I started, I took him shopping and bought him pants that he chose - Bob the Builder and Thomas. That way, he gets to choose which ones he puts on in the morning. He normally has one last wee in his bedtime nappy in the morning before I put him into pants. That way, we get a couple of hours when I haven't got to worry. Good luck - if you need any support let me know.

we started potty training on sunday and are also on day 3. we've had as many wees in the potty as elsewere so far which means we are being about 50% successful however i'm worried because so far ds (2.6) hasn't yet actually told me he wants a wee or a poo. does this mean he doesn't know???

jofeb04 - i would def wait till after holiday and we only have pants during the day - no nappies not even for naps or car trips. i put a pull up on ds at about 6.45 pm just before he goes to bed and I take it off again straight after his breakfast. we have a toddler seat for the toilet but he won't use this at the moment he's mostly using the potty (nice wide rim so he can sit comfortably for several mins if ness!.
