hi, im looking for some advice. I am exclusively bf my 10wk DS but as its Christmas I have been expressing and freezing my milk to give DS a bottle when i have a glass of wine. So this morning I fed as normal but from 3pm onwards I gave a bottle which DS took fine. My worry is that I forgot to express any milk at "normal" feeding times. I don't feel engorged or anything, does this mean I might be drying up or Will everything be ok? I've just hand expressed and I still have milk.
Im in a panic. help
thank you

It can take a while to 'dry up' once your supply is established. (I can still produce milk from my right side even though it's been 6 weeks since he last fed on that side!!)
I wouldn't worry too much, enjoy your day. A

(there is a breast-feeding section though, where you might get more answers).

is there? oops. Will have a look. Thank you for posting though. Common sense told me it wouldn't just stop but my over active panicy brain went into overdrive! Smile

You really, really don't have to pump and dump for one glass of wine. The amount in your milk is the same as in your blood. Massively diluted. Have a look at kellymom.

Sure you got the help you needed but for future reference it takes quite a lot of booze before the baby gets much - you only need to pump and dump after 4+ glasses really. Certainly two or under you should not feel like you can't feed as normal. Remember there is a big time delay before alcohol gets absorbed into bloodstream and works its way into the milk - 4-6 hours. So the best time to feed is while you're having a drink or just after as there is no chance for any booze to have got into the milk. So if you want a drink in the evening you just need to have a bottle prepared for any night feeds - and then only if you want a substantial drink. If you're exclusively BFing it takes many days (sometimes weeks) for your milk to dry up. As pp said Kellymom has loads of useful info. And in future - have a guilt-free Wine !
