Having a poo problem!

Sorry if too much information but I need some help and advise!

I have just trained by DS aged 3.4 and he is going for wees on his own on the toilet and this was simple to do. The trouble we are having that he won't do his poo's on the toilet, he keeps asking for a poo so we take him and then he says no poo mummy, but it is obvious he needs one as he keeps paceing around and hold his bum.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thank you

I found it helped to see potty training for wee and for poo as two separate things - being ready to train for urine didn't mean that my dd was ready to train for poo. She would refuse to use the toilet for a poo to the extent that she would become totally hysterical at the mere mention of it, so rather than force her into doing something that emotionally she wasn't ready for, we let her have a nappy when she needed a poo. It took a long while before she was happy to use the toilet to poo - about 15 months - but for her it was better to let her ask for a nappy than to force the issue.

I had a terrible time with dd. She would hold onto her poo for days making herself really uncomfortable. Eventually she was so constipated that it finally cause diorrhea(sp?). However this was good as the penny finally dropped (and everything else) and after bribing with chocolate buttons and HUGE amounts of praise and extra stickers she would finally go on the potty for both. Not an easy time though, I think I got into a bit of a state about it which probably didn't help. Be patient is my advice and give him some privacy as this also helped with dd
