night time training

Just wanted to ask if this was a familiar situation to anyone - ds is 4 going on 5, and has been very reliable daytime wise for nearly 2 years. Night time is a very different situation, BUT after 2 dry pull ups we decided to take the plunge and take him out of pull ups at night. He's doing really well, and is probably dry about 2 in 3 nights. However, if he does wet himself he doesn't wake up, and I'm wondering if he really has the control, or if we should leave it a bit longer (I don't mind washing his sheets etc, but don't want him to get a complex about it).

What can I expect to happen? Is he likely to just gradually increase the number of dry nights, or is he still not ready? Any experiences would be interesting to hear!!!! Thanks!

I would leave it a bit longer tbh. He is still young. No point getting stressed. My friend's DD2 was 8 before she was dry, and altho she worried about it she decided not to make a big deal of it and upset her DD2.

Are there any specific triggers like evening juice which you could control ? Apple juice in the evenings is a big no-no here. Whether you persist depends on how happy you are with all the washing. Soem children just sleep too heavily to be totally aware when they do it. ds has rarely had an accident, dd (4 1/2) a little less reliable but recently v good.

DS1 went from sodding wet to stone dry literally overnight - but when he was almost 5.

DS2 was 6 and some before he was dry at night.

I've got to pop out now, but will post more later.

Ds1 has had occasional runs of dry nights for about a year (he is now 4.4) but these are interspersed with wet nights - and on these nights he often wets quite early on (before our bedtime) and sleeps through oblivious. So I take this to mean that he nearly has the bladder capacity to be dry at night, but he definitely won't wake if he needs the toilet. I'm waiting until he asks to have another go....

I think if you want to carry on, you will probably see a gradual improvement but I don't think it will be anything he can do anything about.

thanks for feedback so far - I think we'll persist for the moment as he is very proud of the nights he is dry (and dh is great with the washing machine!!!). It sounds like everyone is different anyway, and I'm not too stressed about it - he's definitely going in the right direction!

Hi, have just caught up with this .... am in pretty much the same situation with my almost 4 year old. He really wants to be dry but just sleeps too soundly. How have you progressed?
