DD is 9. We have spoken about it in the past and agreed that the summer holidays between primary and secondary school would be the time to do it.

However DD's best friend has had hers done and to say DD is gutted........Sad

My DD is 7, I think I'd be ok with her having it done now if she desperately wanted it, however, she has never asked/shown any interest in having them pierced so not an issue yet.

I had to wait until 16, mum was really strict about it. I ended up with ears x 2, tongue, navel, lip piercings plus tattoos Blush.

Like others, I think I will let the dc's get theirs done between primary and senior school.

My mum refused to let me have mine done so when I was 12 I went out with friends and had 3 holes pierced in one ear and 4 in the other. My mother was furious! I had them done in a jewellry shop, I don't think they even asked how old I was.

I agree with summer between Yr 6 and 7. DSD had hers done then and DD has been told she will have to wait until the same age ( she is 8 at the mo).
I had mine done at 8 but with hindsight think I was too young and DM should have made me wait until I was older, but she was 8 when she had hers done too so probably assumed it was the norm. DGM was 36; had hers done at same time as DM and made DM go first!

Summer holidays at the end of primary sounds like a good time to me. I once read that ears are still growing until the age of 11, so the hole can end up slightly higher than you might want it if ears are pierced when you are very young.

I'm thinking 13 for DD.

I had navel done at 39.

DD had her ears pierced for her 5th birthday , handily in the summer hols .

After she casually dropped into conversation

Mummy , did you know you can get your tongue pierced ?

logitech56 · 15/12/2012 21:25

when she decided she wanted them done. 7 I think.

ds's have been told they can do so when they are 35. which they now understand means not whilt they are living under their fathers roof. :)
yes, a very sexist attitude. I agree

Last Christmas when she was 6.5 years old

My dd had hers done when she was nine, last day of summer term so that they were sorted for next term. Didn't quite work out though as they went a bit manky. Also it really hurts so not sure about planning anything afterwards if you have a girls day as all my dd wanted to do was go home!

They are fine now, four months later!

I've told DD she can have hers done when she is 16. In reality I will wait and see what the situation is when she starts secondary school. If most of the girls in her class have them, then she can have them for her 12th birthday.

My parents said 16 - mainly because my father was always sewing little girl's ears up where they had ripped earrings through the lobe after PE, in the playground or taking jumpers off.
