Poor boy has had horrendous diarreah since early hours of yesterday morning . I think he had been asleep for a while soaking in it as when I found him and put him in the bath he was already red raw right up to his tummy button and up his back . We have had lots of exploding nappies today but his skin on his bottom is absolutely horrendous now and he is screaming when I change him . I have put sudocreme on for now but it getting worse at every poo- splosion and they are still happening. He has never really had nappy rash so not a clue as to what's best to use

Try lightly whipped egg white. Seriously if you just lather it on and if possible use a real nappy.

Good luck.

I've always used welleda baby nappy cream (get it in boots) and its amazing.
Poor mite. Hope he's well soon.

Sounds awful, poor thing. And you!

Don't know about severe nappy rash like that, but we found Bepanthan to be much more effective than sudocrem.

rubbishonlineshopper · 12/12/2012 23:14

Hi,

For really bad nappy rash we got timodene (not sure of spelling) from dr on prescription - clears it up quick. Then use metanium at first signs of redness to prevent it returning. Poor sausage, hope it gets better soon, x

lia66 · 12/12/2012 23:15

Sudocrem is nasty, have you ever put it on an open sore? Stings like buggery.

You need to whisk an egg white lightly and apply to freshly washed area with your fingers, let it dry on, don't rub it in. Do this every time you change. Don't use wipes, use fleece or cotton wOol and warm water Z. HoPe it clears up quickly. As much nappy free time as poss

Try nappy off if you can, or similar, try a nappy that is very big for him, and worn hanging low. Then the nappy is hanging off allowing the air to circulate, but it will catch the poo. Also, a quick bath, or dip following a wee, and pat dry or allow to dry naturally.

3ForMe · 12/12/2012 23:21

Nappy off where possible. Can you put a couple of old sheets/towels on the floor when he's playing maybe? (If he still has diahorrea )
Bepanthen cream we have found brilliant for our little bums'
Use water or fragrance free wipes to clean his bottom.
Regular nappy changes.

Hope it clears quickly

FanjolinaJolie · 13/12/2012 07:28

Nappy off. Seriously. Only put it on for nap or sleep and that is all. Stay at home. Wash with water only. Cover floor in old towels or duvet covers which can be laundered. Ride out the accidents. Within 48 hours there will be a dramatic improvement.

Metanium I found to be good when the skin is really weeping/raw. The skin can also end up getting thrush in it too if it is a firey red. In this case GP may recomment Timodine which is antifungal and also a cortisoid and works well short-term.

Here's another vote for Weleda nappy cream AMAZING stuff and I have found to be much more healing than sudocream!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Littleorangetree · 13/12/2012 12:59

This might sound pretty woo (advice was given to me by a batty old aunt!), but when my DS had nappy rash I used to clean his bum with cold cammomile tea with some honey in. If you soak a cloth in it and leave it on his skin for a while it works wonders. Really soothing and helps calm the skin down. I also second leaving his nappy off as much as you can and try to avoid using baby wipes at all, even the fragrance free ones.

ReallyTired · 13/12/2012 13:04

Poor thing. I suggest having nappy off time as FanjolinaJolie suggests. It will allow the skin to breathe and do wonders.

Prehaps the health visitor will have suggestions.

LadyofWinterfell · 13/12/2012 13:11

This happened to DD1 once, Egg white was a saviour. Then i got some Waitrose Baby bottom butter which is esentially solid olive oil and cammomile, keep it in the fridge and use at every nappy change. Nappy off time as much as possible too!

I feel for you, have done the poo-covered thing too often to count now!

ItsOkayItsJustMyBreath · 13/12/2012 13:12

Are you sure it's nappy rash? I thought ds had it but it turned out to be a fungal infection. HV gave us some anti-fungal cream and it cleared up really quickly.

If it is nappy rash then I recommend bepanthan.

Hope he gets well soon.
