Bamboozles or Diddy Diaper For Day?? Huggles? How Many?

Hi All

After weeks of trawling 1000's of internet forum posts etc getting information on cloth nappies I think I have finally narrowed it down but have some questions. Sorry if long!

A bit about me to help you help me! I am expecting in July 06 and will be breastfeeding. My first baby was a 8Ib girl, my second a 9Ib 4oz boy not sure what sex or weight this one will be. I live in a hardwater area and will be tumbledrying due to no line facilities.

I have narrowed my choice for my day nappy down to Tots Bots Bamboozles or Diddy Diapers, has anyone used these and which one would you say would suit me better. Sizing is causing problems due to not knowing the weight of this one and the fact it may be about 9Ib or so at birth. Would size ones be cost effective. I understand Bamboozles Size 2 can be folded down to use from birth, has anyone done this and how bulky etc do they come up? The Diddy Diaper comes in two sizes? What do you all recommend.

My choice for night is Huggles by Minki, again which size do I go for?? What do you all think to these nappies?

How many day and night nappies would I need?

Wraps for these: Motherease AirFlow or Nature Babies? Again which sizes would you go for?

Will I need liners or boosters? If so which ones do you recommend?

Sorry long post but don't want to spend £100's on nappies which won't last long.

Thanks in advance!!

Lisa

Right - I can only help with some sections.

I'm using the bamboozles (day and night), and love them. We're using size 1s, which were still big on him when he was born (8lb 5) and needed folding down. They look like they will still last quite a while yet. I think the size 2s would be fairly bulky folded down, as the size ones aren't exactly teeny (they are still lots slimmer than normal tots).

Wraps - I prefer airflow, but we needed aplix nature babies for the first few weeks as DS seems to have skinny thighs, and the airflow weren't tight enough.

You do need liners for the bamboozles. Boosters I'm only needing to use for night time.

Don't think I can advise you on this one as I only discovered cloth when ds was 9mths! Not so sure about the best option for cloth on a newborn but I have heard that muslins are a good idea to start with, not too bulky and cost effective. Then move onto shaped nappies when they are bigger. Have you done the nappy lady questionnaire? Do you have a Team Lollipop rep in your area? (they come out and show you lots of nappies!)

Hi, I tried nappy lady site and lollipop but found mumsnet the best for advice. I used bambino mio with muslins when dd was tiny (6lb10)- just for a few weeks, as she's got bigger (she's 11mths now) we've experimented with all sorts of nappies, I like motherease one size and airflow wraps (started in size small, on large now), also tots bots, and minki huggles, and wee notions microfibre (not tried diddt diapers). I've got a minki huggle for sale, its size small, and dd wore it from about 11-22lbs, but it is pink so might not be any good for a boy. I found trying a few second hand ones worked well before I bought alot, and you can always sell them on. To save money I made all my own fleece liners and I use fleece squares with baby lotion as wipes, just bought a couple of meters from a fabric shop and cut it up. I generally have 4 wraps and about 20 nappies, which means washing every 2-3 days, but I didn't have her in reusables at night, so not sure what you'd need. Good luck.

I started off using prefolds that I picked up very cheaply from boots and then tested a few different nappies. You could use prefolds or muslins plus cotton bottoms wraps (you'll prob need about 4 or 5) for the first few weeks if your next comes out little! Currently using some MEOS, fluffles, bamboozes, kissaluvs, bumbles and sandys(!) I always use an airflow wrap.

Have used bamboozles size 2 (and the fluffles which I also really like) on ds2 from being about 6 weeks, he was 10lb 5 at birth though so pretty big! They are bulky but not ridiculous. Haven't tried diddy diapers so can't offer any thoughts on those.

I would work on the basis of at least 3 hourly nappy changes so about 4 or 5 night nappies and 4 or 5 day nappies per day of washing (IYSWIM)

Personally would buy the medium airflow wraps (10-20lbs) as its quite likely you will get very little use out of any smaller ones.

I use fleece liners. Haven't bothered buying boosters yet, some of the nappies I use have come with them anyway.

HTH a bit anyway
