DS climbing out of cot. Help!!

So my 20 month old DS climbed out of his cot during nap time today (naps sadly seem to be going out the window, but that's another story...) - what do I do??

We got a bed for DD when she did this... (sorry, probably not what you want to hear).

I'm afraid I'll have to second the opinion that he's probably ready for a cot.

Ds2 did it at 11months. We took the side off and used a bed guard for safety sake.

If you use a bed guard they can't roll out in their sleep. It's safer when they climb out though.

We cable tied a step to the side of the cot and lowered the side so it acted as a bed guard, but she could climb over safely.

No way once she'd learnt to vault out was she not going to try it again and quite possibly land on her head.

As to staying in bed, DD1 was impossible to get to bed before she was tired and when she was tired she stayed.

Ds was in a bed at 18 months, as soon as he could climb out of his cot.

I have seen a child climb out of a cot and land on its head - get your ds into a bed with a side rail asap, or do what we did and in the meantime out the cot mattress on the floor until we organised a bed.

Yep, time for a bed. Put a stairgate across the door. We actually found with DD that it didn't occur to her to get out of bed anyway but I know we were lucky.

I've put a mattress on the floor for now. He's already in a sleeping bag - didn't seem to stop him!! He's just refusing to nap now and he's totally exhausted and definitely not ready to stop napping. Any thoughts?!

DD1 was a very good climber and a terrible wriggler.
Having the cot side down to form a bad guard and one of those stout single plastic steps tied to the cot leg worked really well.

she couldn't fall out of bed, but she could climb out without the risk of catching her toe.

It stayed like that until she was 3 and she moved into a 1/2 hight bunk (yes I know they now say 6, but she's 14 and the rules have changed).

Anyway she leaves falling out of bed to DD2.

Just put a gate across the door and leave him to it. I used to find ds asleep on the floor, half on the mattress and half off, was very funny and just covered him with a blanket once he was asleep.
