DD's weight - worried

DD is 11 and she has just come down to get something completely naked. I am really shocked by her shape. She is tall (150cm) and has started developing small breasts along with a little body hair but her tummy is huge with rolls when she sits.

The school nurse said that bmi wise she is on the upper cusp - from the back she is quite slender - it is just the bug tum :-( I think I really am kidding myself that it is puppy fat which will go.

We had a little chat last week because she has a big appetite and can be greedy (taking 3 or 4 biscuit bars instead of one) I haven't discussed her weight/size just eating habits and not taking food without asking etc. We made a list of healthy snacks which she enjoys and all crisps etc have gone. She isn't the sportiest child but walks/cycles a mile to/from school each day and swims once a week.

Feel guilty that I haven't had a grip on it: I do not want to make food an issue at all - any tips please?

How much exercise does she do? Are there some more 'active' things you could do together as a family: ice skating, swimming etc?

Well, the first thing I would do is stop her wandering around the house naked at age 11Smile.

Sorry, just read the whole post properly. Keep going with the swimming but think of some more fun things you can do together at weekends that involve being active. Do you have a Wii fit or dance mat game which might help over winter until it's lighter in the evenings and warmer?

Please address this issue though I had a high bmi at aged 6 and my mum thought its just puppy fat and it got worse and worse.
