I am having a bad case of IBS, the first attack I have had of it before I was pregnant with DS. He is quite a demanding baby and I am feeling terrible. DH works away monday to thursday and our parents all work so have no one on hand to help. Does anyone have any tips on how to look after baby whilst looking after yourself?

Thanks!

Curl up on the sofa with baby and get as much rest as you can, cancel anything non urgent and take it easy at home. Hope you feel better soon Thanks

put big duvet on the floor in the living room, so that you can rest him on the floor if you need to - and put the telly on - the bright lights might distract him! watch telly ...and don't feel guilty if he cries a bit while you sort yourself out..he won't remember later in life!

Does he take a dummy? He won't get addicted just from using it more than usual now....if that soothes him while you get some rest.

If you are able to feed him to sleep I would forget any routine you might be trying to set and just try to get him asleep and cuddled in your lap so you can rest too.

just lie down on the floor, and cuddle him, as long as he's getting lots of cuddles he'll knows he's loved and he'll be fine.

ask your partner. or a friend to leave you easy meals you can either just eat up or heat straightaway. don't try and do ANYTHING ! except cuddle and breastfeed and a few nappies.

btw I read a really interesting article the other day that basically said, all babies cry, they just went from not existing to existing it's a big shock, and the crying is just their way of expressing it, and coming to terms with it, that kind of colicy crying is how they heal themselves from being born. There's nothing you need to 'do' other than just be there for him, and you can do that in a horizontal position!!

get well soon.
