Diarrhoea - 5mo, crying in pain

First child so I just wanted to throw tis out here before I clog up nhs direct

DS has diarrhoea- definitely. Usually poops once -if that- today I've changed 7 nappies.

They are quite muccous-y and a fine yellow colour (he's mainly ff)

He seemed ok with it during today but now he's just fed his last feed and he's in a lot of discomfort and very upset.

I can't stand to hear him in pain but I'm not sure there's much I can do - is there?

Poor thing is teething too so really not 100%x

Just wanted to see if its normal as far as normal goes.

I will check temp if it continues but is the crying enough for me to call nhs direct or shpuld I wait?

Check the temperature now. Also, is he drinking more/less/same amount of formula? You will only really, really have to worried if he seems dehydrated/ fontanelles has sunken in.

NHS Direct will probably ask you to go to your local walk in or paediatric A&E as your baby is still young.

What is temp? Could well be teething and that's causing the runny bum and discomfort.
But if high temp call nhs

My poor DD1 always got na upset tummy when teething. Not too much of a problem unless dehydrated. This can happen very quickly in little ones.

Norovirus is doing the rounds at the minute. I've changed 8 runny nappies today complete with mucous and yellow. DH is down with it as well.

Dioralyte can be given to 5 month olds if you are worried about dehydration.

Teething very frequently causes diarrhea, it did with my DD. There are also a lot of infections going round but provided that he is still feeding and you can see wee in the nappies as well then there's not too much to worry about. Try some calpol for pain if he's teething. Keep an eye in his temperature. If he stops feeding, temperature is high, you're not seeing wees in the nappies, there's blood in the nappy, then get him checked out. If you're still not happy or if he gets worse then get him checked out but at the moment sounds quite typical of a teething baby - its miserable!
