Dual nationality for children German / British

Hello,
I've got a question regarding dual citizenship for my children and I was hoping to find some advice here on how to go about it.
Both of my children (10 and 8) were born in the UK and have always lived here. I am German and have lived in the UK for the past 13 years. Their father is English and we are not married, but are living together. The children have German passports / nationality, but I would like them to have dual citizenship. I have read that they have an automatic right to be registered as British citizens. Do I have to apply for this? I'm also not sure how it would work - I believe Germany does not allow dual citizenship, so I'm worried that they would automatically lose their German citizenship if the application is approved.
If anybody is in a similar situation and has some advice, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks!
Karin

You just gave me a massive fright but having had a look now I think you misunderstood - this only applies if the parents were born outside Germany. If you were born in Germany it will be fine.

Hi there, maybe you can help. My son is born in Germany. I am German, german passport, dad is british with a british passport. We have lived here together since 17 years, he went to school here and we have worked and have mortgages. We are not married. My son has got a german passport too. I have applied for a british passport for him in regards of the changes due to the referendum. The passport office asked for marriage certificate, which we don't have. What will happen next and will my son be eligible for a british passport. Thanks for your help.

Hi I know it’s been a while you posted this. I need 3 nationalities/passport for my daughter. How does it work?

What do you mean 'how does it work'? You apply at the respective consulates and supply all the necessary documents!

I'd apply in a staggered way so that when one expires they still have the other two and can keep renewing on a rolling basis. The German one is the most hassle to renew btw.
