I started toilet training dd1 (2y 7m) over 1 month ago - he has been using a potty or toilet for several months, regularly wakes with a dry nappy, & tells me when he has had a wee and generally showed all the usual signs for being ready.
We started off using "special stickers" as a reward for using the potty in time, along with much praise. Very quickly he tired of the stickers, showing no interest in them at all and now also says "no clapping mummy" when he sits on the potty!
I suggest he uses the potty every hour or so and before we go out or leave somewhere but his stock answer is "no". This is frequently followed up with an accident 10 minutes later.
On average he has 3 accidents per day, somedays more. He has (this week) started to say "wee wee mummy" as he starts wetting and sometimes manages to stop long enough for me to get him to a potty or toilet.
I know you are not supposed to, but I have occasionally pushed him to sit on the potty, usually with an initial fight, then he sits & wees. I don't want to use this tactic as everything I've read says this just creates problems.
I seem to be surrounded by people whose toddlers have toilet trained in a week with only 1 accident! None of the books I have consulted mention accidents continuing for weeks - they all seem to say "stay in for a week & it will be done" which is what I did!!! What am I doing wrong, or are we actually normal and this will eventually come right? I'm so close to giving up and going back to nappies, but I'm not sure if that will cause more problems.
