Going to soft play centre on my own with DS

DS and I have no plans tomorrow (well we did but my friend is unwell so cancelled play date Sad ) and there's this great soft play centre, but I have no one to go with. Would I look like a complete Billy no mates taking DS on my own? What would you think if you saw someone in my situation?
My DS will initially need a lot of hand holding so am worried about abandoning by bag and my coffee going cold too. Every time I've been there are lots of groups of mums together. Blush sorry if this thread seems pointless!

I go on my own most of the time. I have a coffee and MN while watching DS.

AlmostAChristmasHipster · 03/12/2012 17:24

I took mine by myself all the time - no one will bat an eyelid!

TurkeyDino · 03/12/2012 17:25

I always go with just DS. Otherwise we would never go. Kindle, coffee, child occupied.... Bliss Grin

I often went on my own. It was great to read a book in peace once the dc were old enough to entertain themselves

EMS23 · 03/12/2012 17:27

I go on my own lots, go for it!

EMS23 · 03/12/2012 17:28

With my DD I should add!!! Not totally on my own, that would be odd!

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 03/12/2012 17:30

No one will think anything, trust me, they're all too busy sorting their own coffee & kids out!

I take an old bag with nappy stuff in & put my keys, phone and card/cash in my pocket, then I don't have to worry about the bag.

You learn to drink coffee quickly or put them in the smaller area while you have your coffee, or if they have one, on the ride on toy!

StickEmWithThePointyEnd · 03/12/2012 17:32

Today was the first day I have ever been and not been on my own. No one cares honestly.

RyleDup · 03/12/2012 17:32

I wouldn't think anything. Lots of people go on their own. Just keep your money and keys on you.

CometAndCupid · 03/12/2012 17:33

I always go on my own! It had never occurred to me that anyone thinks I'm a loner.

pictish · 03/12/2012 17:34

I go to soft play with the kids on my own often! Can't see the issue! I take a book.

headfairy · 03/12/2012 17:34

I always go on my own too... totally normal imo. I have even been known to smile and chat to strangers to pass the time. Otherwise MN on my phone or read the paper or even play with the dcs :o

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter · 03/12/2012 17:35

I always go with mine, then go on everything with him

Whenever I've been to soft play I've never notced whether other people are on their own or not. Think I've been not on my own about once (apart from going to parties).

Rwep · 03/12/2012 17:46

I met my best friend ever when we were both at soft play on our own (With DC obv) Smile

DCs are now far too old to go to soft play, but we're not too old to have a lot of fun together! Go for it.

maresedotes · 03/12/2012 17:46

I always used to go on my own. No handbag, I used to put money, keys and phone in my pocket.

nextphase · 03/12/2012 17:48

If you put your keys in your pocket, and just £5 in your bag, phone and wallet remain in the car, then go and explore with your son before settling down with a coffee and a book.
Enjoy it. No one will bat an eyelid about you being on your own!

FrameyMcFrame · 03/12/2012 17:50

I go on my own frequently and why would you care what anyone thinks?

mummyonvalium · 03/12/2012 17:54

Surely the point of soft play is to go on your own, when you have nothing else to do.

whistlestopcafe · 03/12/2012 17:56

I always go on my own. I have never noticed whether people are on their own or with a friend. It really doesn't matter.

pod3030 · 03/12/2012 17:59

ooh, i've been wondering about this too-i've been trying to pluck up the courage to go alone (shy mum). my dd's just turned one, is she still too small for soft play?

CMOTDibbler · 03/12/2012 18:02

I've only ever been on my own - wear a top/fleece with zip pocket, then purse/phone/keys in there.

DejaB00 · 03/12/2012 18:36

Well that's me told!
To me there's nothing worse than being judged by cliquey mums I'm not very confident!
pod it depends what your local centre offers. Mine has a large area for non-walkers/little ones and another area for toddlers with balls and cosy coupés, so your dd would love it!

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 03/12/2012 18:43

Pod - no she isn't. Some are better than others and come cater better for the babies or the older ones - try a few out until you find the one that does the best coffee
