Advice needed for getting rid of dummies

Hi All, DS is 3.3 and it's really about time we got rid of the dreaded dummy. He only uses it at night, never in the day, however I'm just very aware that he's much too big for a dummy now! I have visions of him still going to sleep with a dummy at aged 20! I was thinking that we might give them to Santa's elves on Christmas eve so that Santa leaves lots of presents the next morning. Am I just setting myself up for a stressful Christmas? Any advice welcome.

Ah, perfect timing. Dd gave hers to the baby reindeers and Santa wrote and thanked her and left a little thank you present.
In her mind they were gone and there was no bringing them back and the baby reindeers needed them more than she did.

Thanks baubles sounds like a cunning plan!

Just make sure you put them all in the bin so you're not tempted to crack and give in!

We brought our two presents & the dummy fairy visited, i sprinkled glitter up the stairs & in the bedroom leading to the dummy drawer, & left the two presents on their beds, they were so excited that the fairy had been & left presents, it really was not as bad as i thought it would be, they just both accepted that the dummy fairy had taken them for the babies that needed them, i agree that you need to bin them all so you have no way back, my two were 2 & 3 if that helps, had to do them both together as the elder would just take the youngest out of his mouth, i felt DS was too young but he coped really well, it really was less stressful than i thought it would be!

Good Luck!

I did this with dd1 about 6 months ago when she was three and a half. She just had it at bedtime.

The dummy fairy gave her a bike, she settled ok and all was good. Until one week later when she started to suck her thumb.. all the time.

She'd never sucked her thumb before and I can't restrict it to bedtime. I wish I'd have waited till she gave the dummy up on her own.

As the others have said already...good time to do it with the Christmas story and, as long as you prepare her in advance that the dummies will be going, it should be fine.
I had what I thought was the world´s suckiest baby/toddler and we were soooo worried it would be a nightmare and I think he asked for it twice and didn´t even shed a tear!
Just make sure you go round and collect every last stray dummy beforehand as, if she finds one down the back of the sofa, it will be back to square one!
Good luck!
