about 24 nappies? maybe 5 wraps, a booster and a liner for each nappy

Depends on which nappies you get. If they have a sewn in booster (Tots Bots, Little Lambs, Clwt Twt) then you'll only need extra boosters for night time, so 4 at the most). If you buy Motherease Onesize then you'll need maybe 15 boosters as that's enough for washing when they are older and need boosting but only use say 5 nappies a day

they are the bamboozles which have an integral booster i think.

Yep, they have a sewn in one, so 4 extra at the most (and probably not for the first few months). Liners depend on what you are using. You can buy fleece liners but it's cheaper to buy a metre of polar fleece and cut it up (makes around 20 which is all you'll need) or there's paper liners (popli and ultra are the best of the bunch).

It's also worth buying or making cotton wipes from towelling (same material as nappies) you can buy cheap face flannels or hem a cut up old towel. This'll save you loads

By the way - when it's raining and the line is out of the question, I found it was perfectly okay to stick them on the radiator (was initially advised not to!). Can also put a rack up in front and hang them on overnight and they're usually dry by next day.

NannyL · 07/04/2006 23:13

when they are younger (ie new born and a few months old) you will loose many more nappies per day then a toddler!

Who makes Clwt Twt vkone??
Never heard of them but v funny.
It means 'tidy nappy' in Welsh.

It's a lovely woman called Suki, at the moment she's selling them on eBay bu is in the process of setting up a website.

I haven't tried one yet but they are getting good reviews and Suki is a committed clothie

The name's good isn't it, tho I needed the pronouncation spelt out (DH is Swansea born and bred)

MummyToToby · 08/04/2006 11:45

oh yes you pronounce it "clut tut" don't you? they look just as good as the rainbow bots to me, and at such a good price of £4.99. for me though it's bamboo or hemp all the way - much more eco friendly.

Yes MTB 'w' is a vowel in Welsh, usually pronounced 'oo'
Gosh the whole reusable nappies thing has exploded since I got into it 51/2 years ago with dd.Was considered a bit of a weirdy then!

MrsSpoon · 08/04/2006 21:02

DS2 was in cloth, admittedly only from 8 months so no idea how much would be needed for a newborn, he had 12 Tots Bots and I used to wash every second day and either line dry or radiator dry.

Rach69 · 10/04/2006 14:37

I got by with 12 for a newborn washing every other day - now I have about 10 size 2s which is fine as the fluffles dry quickly and if they are only wet I chuck them in with other washing (6 of us in the house - do about 2 loads a day anyway).

BTW I live in Swansea now and love all the 'w' words such as 'dwt' little one, as in dwty down or sqat down to the level of little ones! Also 'twp' stupid/dull . Of course round here 'twt' or tidy is used as another word for 'cool' or 'ok' as in 'she's a tidy girl!'.

Also some nice tots bots cum bumble imitations on ebay by someone called 'bumbeano' she even embroiders them and they are only a fiver.

If you don't want/can't afford too many shaped nappies, how about having some muslins as backups too? They dry in super quick time and you can vary the folds to suit your baby. I use a combination of these (18) and tots (8). Now i'm an expert at the folds I hardly use the tots except at night.
