Tips on getting medicine into babies?

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 26/11/2012 16:34

Just been prescribed infant gaviscon for 5 week old ds and I think it going to have to be a syringe in the mouth job. Any tips on where to position the syringe - do I need to get it as far back as possible (obviously without choking ds or making him gag too much!

I think the advice is to pop into the cheek pouch? slowly.

Hope it helps!

What kato says, but you'll soon get the hang of it.

Into cheek like previous poster said, try mixing it with expressed milk or formula if baby spits it out too

medicine dummy. Is the bizniz for giving medicine to babies. It has a syringe function too in case baby decides not to suck on it. It is called Eezimed and you can buy them online.

Side of the mouth as above and before feeds when they're hungry it is easier to trick them into persuade them to take it.

We used (and still do) the infacol dropper for all medicines. Have measured it out into a measuring spoon and now give 2 or 4 dropper fulls

Oooh, the infacol dropper! Tremendous idea, will do that - thanks!

A syringe type thing that you put in their mouth.

Side of the mouth - you can get syringes over the counter at any chemist.
