I'm really trying to loose some weight and get a but fitter! I'm breastfeeding and currently have Pnd so some days I can't do anything but push myself to go for a walk. How do you fit in excersise and how far/long should one walk to make it effective at weight loss?

I try to get out of the house with the pram and walk a few miles each day: this built up slowly over the months from walking about 200 metres when DH first went back to work.

ALso I do "floor exercies" 3-4 times a week: just a few pressups, crunches (after the midwife gave the OK), leg raises etc. DS finds me counting exercises most entertaining and tends to forget to play with his toys.

Finally I go to postnatal pilates most weeks: we all take babies and pop them in the middle on playmats (our own, brought under the pram).

Hope you manage to get the PND under control, and remember there's not a rush to loose the weight, a bit at a time helps.

Walking! I walked for miles with my newborn, it's great for the psyche too. Walk to a far away supermarket and fill the bottom of the pram with shopping and you get an even greater workout on the way back.

It takes a certain will to do it in this weather but once you're out, you're out. If you have a parent facing pram or pushchair put headphones with music or an audiobook on, or just use the time to straighten out your thoughts.

It can be really therapeutic, me time.

Once DD1 settled into a bit of a routine (at about 2 or 3 months old iirc) I used to do a short exercise DVD every morning while she napped. Also running/jogging at the weekends. And lots of walking with the pram. Ideally a couple of miles at least, but anything is better than nothing, plus it'd get me out of the house and away from the snacks :)

There's a mum & baby running group that I go to. You take the pram and you can be any fitness level - I've just started from pretty near zero. If you do a google search, I'm sure you can find one near you. Or you can pm me and tell me where you are and I'll do a search for you.

I'm just walking with the pram at the moment (not every day and sometimes I don't go far) but hoping to start Buggyfit when I've had my 6 week check.
