When do you start being firm about the don't touch thing?

DD2 is 8 months and into everything! We didn't really have this issue with DD1, she was much slower to move and wasn't nearly as curious about things as DD2 is!

Our problem is that, naturally, she wants to touch and explore everything. Including the Ipad (currently trying to slap the screen!), telephone wires, the TV stand etc etc.

I've been saying 'No!' really firmly and removing her, but she doesn't really seem to understand. I don't know if anyone has any advice/tactics? Or am I going to have to concede to baby proofing a bit more?

It depends if it's something that could hurt her. Anything actually dangerous I'd move out of reach or babyproof. Other things that she shouldn't really play with but won't hurt her I'd just keep saying "no" and remove/distract her if necessary. 8 months is still very little though; she won't really understand, but you have to start somewhere.

Exactly what Earnest said.
You move things that could either hurt her or she is likely to break so she can't get them in the first place, and the others you repeat the "No", move the item then and distract with something else.

Agree. Although we slightly varied it to avoid saying no all day long. So for the bin/pushchair wheels etc. it was "urgh, dirty, yuk" or "that's mummy's, not for DS" which worked as well.

We were quite easy going for some things (ie stuff we didn't want DS to touch but which weren't dangerous, like our phones) just taking them away. For dangerous stuff though we were a lot stricter.

DS was really into everything but after a couple of months did stop touching sockets for example...except now he knows it's a surefire way of getting attention Hmm so we give him 2 warnings then do a timeout for 2 minutes in his cot which he hates.
