Grunting at night

Roopoo · 26/11/2012 12:26

DS 4 weeks grunts and strains all night.
Think he is asleep when doing it.
However it is very very loud and keeps both me and DH awake.
Just wondered
Is this normal
Anything I can do to help him
Is this a phase will it pass.

Putting into his own room isnt an option as 2 bedroomed house and dont want DD disturbing.

My DS did this from 4 weeks until about 12 weeks. I found a colic massage on YouTube which helped but it appears to be a phase they go through. He is now 15 weeks and doesn't do it at all.
We tried infacol, gripe water and colief, nothing made a difference and it seemed to bother us more than him!

Thanks
I will just keep on with the Its a phase mantra until it passes

Both mine did this - got better from 3 months. Ds got his own room at 2 months though as I was so desperate for sleep - dd had to stay put.

Our newborn does this! I posted on the Sleep board, lots of replies saying it's normal thankfully.

Does he have a cold? If so I'd get the grunting checked out.

DS age 6 weeks has done this since we came home from hospital. There is a set of noises he does as he is going to sleep and a set if he is waking up but waking up can span several hours so it's a lot of grunting/slurping/squeaking/cry like noises!

DH sleeps through some of it but I don't. However DS is very long for his age and will outgrow his Moses basket soon so we figured going into his own room will solve the issue, as the only problem is my sleep as it doesn't cause DS any distress as far as I can see.

My DS (6 wo) used to do this a lot and we figured it was because of wind. So we bought a tummy massage oil from the Waleda website... It worked wonders... AlsoDS now loves his evening tummy massages :)

Like a moose on heat? Totally normal, if very irritating.
