Cyclical vomiting - head lice treatment

Our daughter age 8 has 4 bouts of this but no other symptoms. We put it down to food bugs etc etc .....but have now had second thoughts.

In May she ended up in A+E on a drip as she could not keep anything down,

In Aug very ill but it passed.

As I speak she is in hospital again with Mum on a drip again.

No headaches no diaarrhea, no pain...just vomit.

We racked our brain in terms of what may have caused this.

Each bout coincided with head lice....we are now wondering if what we are putting on is poisoning our daughter.

The side effect say itchyness of scalp , sore eye etc etc and we never made the connection , nothing about vomiting BUT it seems very concidental,

Anybody had this and thought hang on .......

What were you putting on? The pesticide type or the smothering type?

What sort of treatment were you using?

To be honest I dont want to mention the brand but it is dearest on the market !

They say it has no chemicals so it may be total coincidence and i do not want to diss them.

That said i am just trawling to see if anybody esle has put stuff on their childs hair and then ended up with them quite sick.

We never even gave it a thought but then decided hang on how does it kill the bugs ?

The vomiting matches exactly the times she has had head lice !

Could she also be allergic?

My son had cyclical vomiting syndrome too (diagnosed age 4, now 8). We used to think it was his body responding to viruses and bugs but over the last year I have changed my mind on that. I can link every episode back to a stressful event in his life where he was scared - eg. his first sports day, the day I lost my temper with him big time (I'm ashamed to say), the day he went on a play date without any prior planning, frequently in his first year at school, the day he wet himself at school etc. His most recent episode was when he hit his head in the swimming pool this summer - he later explained that he was scared he wouldn't be able to get out of the water or that he was bleeding. I have come to see there are two sides to his cvs - body shock/stress and also when confronted with a regular illness it's like his body tells itself it has to go into cvs mode.

Could it be a fear of the headlice or a worry about how it makes her feel at school (eg. scared what friends will say)? Could it be her body's way if dealing with the stress even if she doesn't show it? Do you react to the headlice incidents in a particular way? (eg. I was very unforgiving when ds wet himself at school and I know that was wrong of me).

Whatever - hope her current episode ends soon. It's so horrible to watch helplessly. x
