WALKING REINS

My DD is 15 months old & since she's been walking HATES going anywhere in her buggy or our car... she wants to walk everywhere! So, we got her some reins so she can walk in busy, crowded places without us worrying too much.
But, she screams with them on & she won't hold our hands when walking, either.
What's the best way to "train" her?

she just needs to know, no reins, no walking.
Ignore the screaming, when you try to put the reins on, if she screams, make her sit in the buggy.
My Dd is 22 months, she will gladly hold her arms out for me to put the reins on!

my DD - 18m - most of the time try and jump out of her buggy whilst im trying to fastening her up.. so i have to pin her down and then its all done - about 5 mins later

i only use the reins for when we go to the park or walking down the street to the shops but never have done it whilst its somewhere busy - eek!! ..... you just have to switch off a bit whilst she is screaming abit

Have you tried encouraging her to walk with the reigns holding onto her pushchair. Ds won't hold my hand but will happily hold onto pushchair and walk quite nicely. Also means if he is too moaney he gets put in there! Might be worth a try.

Can you put the reins on her before you go out? Then they're already on when she wants to walk.

dd done this and would walk round and round in circles till she had wound them up then she would swing round like a wee monkey(she hated reins) i then bought the wrist strap from Mothercare, excellent and saved all our problems, she is now 2.11 and when we are in town she still uses it.

I use the little life toddler day sack, which you can attach a harness to, my DS 20 mths loves it

We've got the Little Life backpack too (about £10) and it's great. Just as secure as reins, but with a handle at the top of the backpack too for an extra firm hold when needed.

Ds is now 3 and just uses the rucksack on it's own - the strap is detachable. He puts a box of raisins and a car in it and he's ready for anything Smile

Insist. No reins, no walking. And be absolutely consistant.
