I am a childminder and don't have any girls of my own. One of my mindees (just turned 3) had dried up dark discharge on her knickers (noticed when took her to the toilet - never had before).

I just wondered if this may mean she has a slight infection or something? Anyone know?

I know she's a little run down with a cold and just had conjunctivitis (not bad though).

Any advice would be great so I can pass on to her mum.

Thanks :)

thrush maybe?

jampots · 04/04/2006 13:59

dark as in browny? or dark as in darker than light?

could be UTI possibly?

zebrabra · 04/04/2006 14:05

DD is 4yo and doesn't... but I think it's hugely variable among adults (I know I don't, but I think most women usually do?) Blush. Suggest the mum phone her GP or NHS Direct for advice.

Her mum needs to take her to the GP to find out the cause.

define dark!! what colour?

HellyBelly · 04/04/2006 14:19

sorry for delay, got problems with pc - keeps crashing (and phone line down)

anyway, dark as in browny dark. i really want her mum to go to the dr's and she's more likely to if I can give a little advice about what it could be.

thanks :)

Sure it's not poo?

ToujoursMarine · 04/04/2006 14:21

That would be my thought too Prufrock. Small girls wouldn't have dark coloured vaginal discharge normally.

HellyBelly · 04/04/2006 14:22

Grin - no way!!! defo discharge. i need to look again after she's finished her lunch but if i was wrong about the colour then it could be a dark greeny brown - defo dark though :)

she's mentioned a tummy ache too but it's higher up rather than low down so not sure if this is connected

I would call her mum and get her to make an appointment at docs - try and force cranberry juice on her (the little girl) too

HellyBelly · 04/04/2006 14:24

will try - easier said than done I'm afraid.

Greeny discharge = UTI possibly, also, apparently GP told me that discharge in little girls can also be caused by threadworms making their way round from the anus at night and irritating the vagina Sad
Definitely off to the docs, poor little sausage. Hope she feels better soon.

HellyBelly · 04/04/2006 15:02

Ok, I was wrong about the browny look, must have been the lighting in our bathroom. Looked again and I'd say dark yellow/green colour.

Have phoned mum and told her I would take her to the Dr if it was me so fingers crossed.

Thanks for help, if you have any more ideas since I've changed the colour, please let me know!

Thanks :)
