I'm not an interpreter, but we employ them - to do BSL interpreted theatre shows, interpret for meetings and conferences, and I know some of them really well.
afaik, interpreters tend to specialise. Doing a theatre production is completely different from interpreting in court, for e.g. Theatre ones tend to have some experience of performance, themselves, working for social services or interpreting in court is a specialist field, and you have to know legal terms etc etc.

I know this is a really old thread but I thought I would reply.

I have level 3 BSL but don't use it much. I support a Deaf tutotr teaching BSL 1/2 but thats it at the moment as I have two preschool age children.

You need level four BSL to be an interpreter but there is only 4 places in England that run the course as far as I know.

I have also set up a website selling sign language resources for babies and children.
