Any Norwegian mums/families in the East Midlands?

Hi, I'm near Nottingham and almost 36 weeks pregnant with DC1 and am hoping to speak Norwegian to him from the start (DH is English and does not understand Norwegian).

I'm bilingual English/Norwegian although my Norwegian has suffered from living in the UK for 10 years and English is the language I am now most comfortable with.

It would be really nice to meet any Norwegian-speaking mums in the area! Smile

Hi there. I am in Cambridge but just wondering how you have got on with the norwegian with DC1. I am trying to do the same with my toddler and would love to be able to exchange experiences.

Hi! I have just joined mums net, and have been wanting to get in touch with other Norwegian mums for ages so was excited when saw this!
I live in Derbyshire and have two boys who I speak norwegian to, aged 5 years and the other one 8 months! My husband is English and for my 5 year old this is his dominant language as he has heard it around him at nursery and now school, but he understands everything I say to him in Norwegian which is really good :)
To paleandinteresting: your baby must be around 6-7 months now?
Would love to exchange experiences with you both, and any others in the same situation!

Hi again. Sorry, only just saw your reponse RagOT. Are you still on mumsnet? Would love to pick up the thread with you and any others out there. My dd is now 4 and does speak norsk but English is definitely stronger.

Hi, I originally started this thread (have name changed). Sorry that I never got back to either of you. My DS is almost 3 now and I feel guilty that I never started speaking Norwegian to him. I think I was too overwhelmed at the beginning just being a mum, my OH doesn't understand Norwegian, and English is the language I feel most comfortable speaking myself (grew up bilingual but have lived in the UK for more than 10 years and my Norwegian is getting a bit rusty).

It's great that you have both spoken Norwegian to your DC. I am going to start and my mum is keen to help. Hopefully it won't be too confusing for my DS!

Any Norwegian speaking Mums out there? Bringing up my DC of 7 and 2 bilingually and would love to swap notes with anyone trying to do the same.

I am a Danish native. Been living in London for 10 years. I have a three year old and I introduce her to danish rhyme times and bringing in the the Danish culture at home. Luckily my family has moved here and my family speaks in Danish to her. But I am trying to incorporate English. So that she can communicate with her playgroup.

I would recommend in bringing the Scandinavian culture in a home environment. Rhymes and having people who can also communicate in the same language. Hope this helps!

We also travel to Denmark once a year!

Hi all, joined just to reply to this! My first wee cookie is three months, with a Scottish dad, and I don't know any other Norwegians in my area so thought I'd say hello! Sadly I'm not near any of you.
Currently just speaking to my wee one in Norwegian day to day which will be his main input in the language. I've had visits from family from Norway and we will visit Norway semi-frequently but English will deffo be his first language. Hoping Norwegian might win the "first word" contest though! (Go "mamma"!!) :D
Interested to hear any thoughts or experiences!
