go on a residential trip with school?
Dd is in y4 and off to an educational centre run by the LEA. Its an hour from here, there are 39 of the 55 kids in the year going with 4 teachers plus the staff from the centre. They go Monday am til Friday pm.

Just wondered whether you'd let your child go?

I'm happy for her to go, won't stop me worrying like crazy though, and she is so excited. Don't think I've ever seen her like this before!

yep!

we went camping every year with school from the age of about 8. it was fab!

littlemissbossy · 20/03/2006 20:21

My older boys went on the school residential, all of the children in their year went - haven't heard of any parent who refused TBH, part of school/educational experience. I worried just as any parent, but they had a great time and I'm sure your DD will tooSmile

Yep - except mine broke his leg the weekend before due to go. He was 8 mid August & trip was mid Sept. The ones that did go had a whale of a time.

I'm running a residential trip with my year 4's, I'm taking 63 children and 9 other staff with me! They love it - children and staff!(I've been taking them for 8 years now) and these centres are incredibly safe, we go to a PGL one and the safety is next to none in my opinion. What sort of activities would she be doing?

noddyholder · 20/03/2006 20:24

My ds went to the isle of wight in yr 4 and although I was stressing it was the best thing ever He enjoyed it so much and they had a great time, although he is going on a trip to Italy and I am not so cool about thatBlush

cutekids · 20/03/2006 20:24

This is something that I've talked about with a couple of friends whose kids are in YR 4. All of them-even though I thought it was only me!-were so...oo nervous of letting their 8/9yr olds go but the kids were so excited that they didn't have the heart to stop them!My dd1 will be in yr 4 in september and i've already decided that i'm not going to let her go...how awful is that?!i just can't bear to think of her being so far away--took me all my time to let her stay at my mum's on saturday night about 1 mile away!-and yet she's the sort of kid that loves outdoor adventures;climbing trees;excitement in general. i'm just so possesive of her-and my other two who are nearly 7 and 6.(although,have to admit,i do tend to let my son-middle child-do alot more independently). Is that a boy thing though?!

Troutpout · 20/03/2006 20:28

yep...although i thinj mon-Fri is a bit long for a first trip

Tortington · 20/03/2006 20:35

in a second!

Posey · 20/03/2006 20:45

Dizzymama - they do pond dipping, nighttime walk in the woods, a trip to local castle, nothing hugely dangerous!
I was just interested if the 39/55 parents, approx 70% was typical of parents of y4s.

I would.

nutcracker · 21/03/2006 11:15

I would

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/03/2006 11:18

I would! I went at 8 years old and LOVED it... we did a PGL (Parents Get Lost) and it was fab.... quad biking, canoeing, abseiling, archery etc ..... had a fabbo time! And after boarding with the other girls, I came home and demanded mum and dad sent me to boarding school!!!

NomDePlume · 21/03/2006 11:19

Yes I would (and did).

Kelly1978 · 21/03/2006 11:20

yes. I'd been to two camps by that age and loved them. Each were a week long. I know my dd would love it too. She never wants to come home from school.

Angeliz · 21/03/2006 11:21

I have all this to come and am dreading it!!

Bozza · 21/03/2006 11:24

Yes I would.

PiccadillyCircus · 21/03/2006 11:26

I would let her go.

Posey · 21/03/2006 21:01

Thanks for that everyone. I never doubted my decision to let her go and to be honest she would probably divorced me if I wouldn't let her go.
It is very exciting round here now, all that labelling of stuff, checking she has everything.
Tomorrow we have to send our child a letter, to ensure that it gets there while they're away! Will have to make up what we've been doing, and will probably get ds to scribble on it or draw a happy (his favorite thing)!

I may be back here next week when I'm feeling wobbley and need pulling together!
