Help - need ideas for party...

Can anyone suggest some party games that would be suitable for 11 and 12 month olds. I'm doing pass the parcel but need a few more ideas. Thanks.

Personally, I'd say that was too young for party games.

i'd get a ton of balloons and borrow one of those pop up tunnels from the toy library and leave it at that.

sorry but it 'll be the mums playing not the babies ! Wouldn't bother with any other structured activities at that age, just put on some music and have some toys around.

I wouldn't have tried games when ds was that age. He is 16m now and I still don't think I would. Sorry.

Ds did have the time of his life with a balloon on his first birthday (just me and him having a party!). Then it burst and all hell broke loose!

GillL · 20/03/2006 17:08

The problem is that there are older kids going. If I only play games with them then I would end up ignoring the younger ones who the party is really for (it's my dd's first birthday).

Pass the parcel will cause a lot of confusion and tantrums amongst the babies - they will be passed something, only to have it taken away and IME they are usually horrified at this!Grin

See if you can hire a ball pool? and have big kids/babies in shifts.

FWIW My ds didn't "get" Pass the Parcel at 2, and might only just get it now at nearly 3 - but might not. Would not bother with any games at all for under 4's.

Ooooh ... that's a different matter GillL. It sounds cruel but I'm sure the little ones won't have a clue what's going on so I wouldn't gear party games round them. They'll probably just love watching the older ones. Not much help - sorry Smile

Pass the parcel is the biggest cause of tears and tantrums at small kids' parties in my experience Grin My best find ever was a "balloon drop" kit from Asda - loads of balloons that you put into a bit plastic bag type thing and attach to the ceiling with a string to pull and release them on top of the kids' heads.

rarrie · 20/03/2006 19:33

Get a bubble machine - £15 in ELC. Will keep them going for hours! Balloons also a good idea and if you can beg steal or borrow one a large parachute. Put the babies inside and the adults fan it up and down, completely smothering (if they like it) the children inside and then raising again. My DD always got hysterical with excitement at this one!

We have had different age groups to a party and I always cater the party to the birthday childs age.

To be honest I wouldnt bother with much for a 1 year olds party, ballons and bubbles would be more than enough.

Maybe you could hire a bouncy castle for the older ones to amuse themselves and you can concentrate on entertaining the younger ones.
You could also maybe arrange some arts/crafts ideas geared towards the different ages-like making/decorating hats/wands for the older ones and hand painting for the younger ones.

Thanks all. I think I had it in my head that the whole 2 hours had to be structured with things to keep everyone amused.
