Am I supposed to see HV/baby clinic?

DS is nearly 12 months. Is he supposed to see a HV? We went to baby clinic once when he was about 3 months old, but haven't been since. Do I need to go and get him weighed regularly? The red book has charts in and all the parents I talk to bang on about centiles... I just have never been given any clear information about this!

No, not unless you feel the need to

DS is nearly 3, I last took him to be weighed at 13 weeks at which time I was so pissed off by the HV I haven't been back since. He saw a HV for his 8 month check at 13 months and his 2 year check was when he was about 2.5

He is regulary weighed at hospital appointments anyway.

I never go. I can't be arsed and I don't care what my baby weighs.

When I brought DD3 to have her immunisations the lovely HV told me that the new advice is not to weigh babies more than once a month because it gives no useful information and just makes people worry.

We saw HV few days after birth, saw GP at 6-8 week check then only saw nurse for vaccinations until I took DD to get weighed again at 17 months.

Baby clinic is there for neurotric first time mums who don't feel confident. Provided your baby outgrows their clothes then you have nothing to worry about.

Dd was tiny and we got her wieghed at
2 week (primary visit)
3 weeks
8 weeks
6 months
1 year.

Her weight fell from the 50th centile to the 0.4th centile (on the old chart). We then had the health visitor coming out to our house for a couple of months. (We refused a paediatric referral so had the health visitor breathing down our neck. Dd was above the 2nd centile for a breastfed baby.)

Do you not have a 7-9 month check up in your area? Some jabs are normally given around 12-13 months where you are normally offered contacted with your hv. Totally agree with others though, you don't need to see them and get babies weighed all the time. You can see / feel / buy new clothes as an indicator they are growing.
