I do drink wine regularly. I have a glass of red most nights (more at the weekend). I'm stressed though I tell you... stressed! Mind you, I'm at work until late this evening so it will be an alcohol-free one for me today. Oh - and my DC know I like my wine (and will refill my glass if I ask nicely)! Grin

I drink very regularly (a few glasses of red most evenings) and did so as soon as DS was born. In fairness, I actually think DH and I drink more now he's here than we ever did before.

I've actually started to curb the drinking during the week as I'm marathon training but I do look forward to those evenings when I can come home, flop on the sofa and enjoy dinner and a glass of wine.

When DNiece was 3 she asked my sister if "mummy needed her magic drink" then came back with a can of red bull and the vodka. My sister was mortified!

I realise this story makes us all sound like alcoholics... I swear we're not! Grin

I used to have 2-3 large glasses regularly (ie: 6 nights out of 7 Grin) however I have put on weight and have various minor health issues so I have made a huge effort to cut down - and have to admit that I feel a lot better and weigh a lot less Grin.

Children who watch their parents drink are twice more likely to binge drink when they become teenagers. Drinking alcohol every day isn't healthy, and not a good example to set your children and it normalises the abuse of drugs and makes it seem acceptable. For example, if your children begin experimenting with drugs, cannabis etc you would seem a hypocrite if you were against it.

Just look at all those pre-teen French alcoholics running around... Seriously, though, I do tend to be of the opinion that to enjoy wine in the same way one enjoys food - for the taste and the conviviality, not just shovelling (in food case) or slurping (in wine case) it down unthinkingly is surely not a terrible model to offer our children. We cook nice things from scratch every day and have a glass of wine, or more, as part of the experience; not intending to stop that any time soon. Frankly I can take as much joyless information - however true - as anyone cares to throw at me without it inspiring me to stop enjoying one of life's great pleasures. Now sits back to await flaming... Grin

Feral totally agree with you - I would far rather my DS saw DH & I enjoy a couple of drinks at home with our meal rather than knowing we go out on the lash every Saturday night and roll home drunk not judging anyone.

Concerned, just wondering about your name - what is it you're "concerned" about?

I know I come from the "fuck it, if it works, do it" school of parenting and and laid back to the point of horizontal in my approach but I'm pretty sure that there are better things I could be doing than clutching at my pearls wondering if I'm setting a good example to my 1 year old.

I know I'm a good mum and I don't doubt my abilities as a parent - DS is happy, he's thriving and brings DH and I endless joy. That's good enough for us. I won't concern myself over the possibility that he "might" experiment with drugs and cannibis due to the fact that his dad and mum damaged him by imbibing beer and wine in front of him. Alcohol only becomes an issue if you make it an issue. Life is far too short to worry about the "what ifs" and "maybes".
