Converse as first shoes?

Dd is 9mo and shoeless as she isnt walking yet. Im assuming she will start to learn over the winter so imagine I will need to get her something for her feet.

Can I get converse? Dh and I wear them and love them, so I would like her to have a pair too but everyone seems to go for Clarks.

Do I need to line Mr Clarks pockets?

Get her smething really soft like those startrite jellytots. Clarks are too heavy and clunky imo, I think kids need to feel their feet. Converse , no definitely not til she is much older imo!

I do think you should get her feet properly measured at least.

Converse are cute but a total PITA to put on and take off.

How will you know they fit? Baby's feet are too soft to guess and they mould to the wrong size shoes. You really need to have first shoes fitted and they don't do that with converse. They are also too heavy and not flexible enough.

Happylittlesoles.co.uk have really good info on why barefoot is best and what you need to look for in shoes.

I wouldnt put my just walking 10mth old on shoes yet and when I do they will be very light and flexible.

We won't be going to Clarks either!

Converse ate quite narrow for baby feet. First shoes should be measured for size and width. But once your dc is up and walking next year confidently say 18 months + def get some converse. Lightweight and they can't pull them off if you get high tops as that will be the next phase Grin

My boy got converse when just over a year: needed shoes to go with smart outfit for a wedding, and looked much better than clumpy smart shoes. And they are soft.

Think all that "got to buy Clarks" stuff is a pile of rubbish tbh.

Converse ARE really difficult to get on and off babies! Even the elastic ones.

What about the canvas Clark's Doodles - cheaper than regular Clark's and Converse-like, but you can get measured and get ones you know fit well.

Or get measured at Clark's and buy on eBay? I've done this and found lots of worn-once shoes for my 12mo on eBay, ordered a couple of leather pairs for around £12.

Converse are wide fitting and don't support the ankle. They have a large rubber section at the front which is detrimental to a new walker in that they will constantly fall over it. Walking on carpet in particular but most surfaces if the child doesnt pick their feet up cleanly the rubber will jar and the child will fall down.

You don't necessarily have to go for Clarks but a little independent that will fit the shoes comfortably to the foot. Start right are excellent.

There is so much more choice other than Clarks!

Personally, I have chosen not to put dd in Converse as I found the soles very thick.
