i dont know how to explain this - if you have a big enough gap is it like having a first again especially when your first wasnt how you thought it would be in terms of dp running off and not being supportive?

I have a 10 year old, and now pregnant with my second.

To be honest, it doesn't feel the same as it did the first time. I don't think you ever get that back....

I do remember it well as it was the deciding factor for me training to be a midwife, so I am very aware of the thoughts and feelings I had through it.

I am not as excited this time, yet, as I know what is to come, and the hard work it entails. Well, it was hard work last time anyway!! I hope to be more excited once I find out I have a child that sleeps (occasionally!) and when I get to know them as a person.

I have a 13 year gap between mine, and i was just as excited with my second as he was the baby i never thought i would have. Smile

I was so much more excited second time than the first time. During my first pregnancy I couldn't really get truly excited because I couldn't visualise what I was getting, it all seemed too daunting and unknown. This time, I knew what I was getting and was so looking forward to it. Our DC2 is 9 days old and these early days have been so much more fun - we're much more relaxed and know what we're doing. This is way more enjoyable than the first time! Grin

I was just chatting to DH about this the other day. I am pg with no 2 and I am not as excited, because I know of the hard work to come, and worry a bit about the effect on DS1. Equally, I am calmer as I know that the bad bits will pass and we will also have lovely brilliant bits.

I was surprisingly more emotional at my second scan as seeing the little hands and thinking "they will hold mine as I cross the road, and will honk my nose and stroke my face" whereas I didn't know any of the lovely stuff when I was pregnant with no 1.
