usually everything that is not locked up or nailed down!!!

Seriously, dd is 7 and ds is 6 and they eat loads, if they can get it... crisps, biscuits etc etc, otherwise, cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurts, anything they can munch on while watching endless horrid henry!

Do you set limits, or do they eat as much as they like?

I set limits, I try to let them have something then get going with cooking dinner, otherwise they fill up on snacks and don't eat their tea!

I try and feed them dinner by 5 otherwise it's pester pester pester! Before dinner they can have fruit, crackers, maybe biscuits, not a lot though or they will try and get out of eating dinner.

A digestive biscuit or some grapes / apple slices. Occasionally something a little more exciting like a slice of banana bread if I've been baking. They are only little though (just turned 5, Y1).

Nothing.
They have dinner around 5.30/6pm, they don't eat much dinner if they've eaten beforehand.

It depends on what night it is, swimming night she has a sandwich and dessert after school and then dinner at about 6:30 after swimming. Beaver night we have dinner for 5pm so only 1 biscuit after school. Other nights it depends on who's round and what is for dinner but those are our 2 extremes.

InMySpareTime · 06/09/2012 22:40

Ok, I'm feeling a bit mean now, but it's only 3 hours since they ate, and only 2 hours until they eat again.
If DCs can't manage 5 hours without eating, how do they make it through the morning (my DCs eat breakfast by 7am) all the way to lunch time?

Well, DD (aged 9 and growing a LOT ATM) is eating so much I'm not sure where feeding a normal growing girls appetite ends and greediness begins. She eats more than me and I think my portions are prob bigger than they should be.

However, today I decided to make her pasta for when she got in from
School. Was average serving she would have for dinner, but she didn't snack after, had a dinner ( normal size) at 7.30pm, a yogurt then a small bowl of cereal for supper at about 9.30- less than normal serving.

Am hoping it wasn't a fluke and am going to start making more substantial meals straight after school. Don't like her grazing all day.

My middle DS is 17, he has a bowl of cereal for breakfast and then nothing at all until he gets home at 4ish Shock. (he has money for the canteen and could easily take sandwiches to school but chooses not too). So when he gets home he is ravenous. He goes straight to the kitchen and makes two sandwiches. He might then have a yoghurt or a piece of fruit. If there are biscuits about he will also eat a few of them too. What I find suprising is that it doesn't spoil his appetite for supper which we typically eat at 6ish. He can eat a huge plate of pasta. I think it is quite an odd way to eat but he seems fine with it. He is very skinny.

It depends what we have in the house.

Today it was toasted crumpets, yesterday it was apple & a biscuit. Sometimes they'll have houmous with pepper or breadsticks or a piece of cake if we've been baking.

We don't have dinner until 6.30-7pm so they need something to keep them going from their school lunch at Midday.
