Soft carrier to carry 21 month toddler

Can anyone recommend a soft carrier for me to carry my DS?

There seem to be so many out there, and I'm nowhere near a sling meet or library to try before I buy.

What's good?

I have a Boba G3 carrier. It's really like an Ergo, which I know are very popular, but I found a good website which compared different carriers, and it suggested this one would be better for heavier babies. My DS is 17 months but weighs at least 33 lb. I've carried him for short walks and it's really comfy but haven't tried it for longer hikes yet. Oh yes, also has very cute fabric options!
I did borrow a friends Ergo and that was really comfy too, but based on the reviews on this website I went for the Boba in the end, mainly because it is longer in the body, and as my DS is big for his age I didn't want him to outgrow it too soon.

Hope that helps!

I love my Ergo, I have used it from birth and my son is now two and half, he is at that stage where we don't need the pushchair but occasionally he gives up walking so the Ergo is getting lots of use at the moment.
I know there are some sellers who give 30 day money back offers which may give you opportunity to try and return without too much money lost.

Rose and Rebellion have recently started selling a toddler-sized carrier (you have to email them I think). The problem isn't so much weight at this age, but comfort for both you and DS - you ideally want one where the seat reaches from knee-to-knee and none of the baby sized carriers will do this unless you son is teeny tiny :)

Madam Googoo sell a mid size carrier as well, or a woven wrap sling will fit comfortably as long as you want to carry!

By the time DS was that age(ish), the Ergo was getting too small - he was well within the weight range, but he's tall (99th centile) so it didn't reach far enough up to his armpits, and he constantly risked falling out sideways.

The toddler Patapum worked well for us after that - reached right up to his armpits.

Isn't the vaude Koala a bit like a bjorn? crotch dangler :)

We still use the Ergo occasionally and DD is now 3.4. Have carried a 4 year old in it once too and it wasn't too bad. I would totally recommend them, expensive but worth it.
