I am hoping to use washable wipes for wee's only initially due to DD being 2 and renowned for yucky poos. I do not want to keep wipes stored in a box with solution in, rather use a spray bottle, and store wipes dry and use as needed. What would you recommend to put in the spray bottle? I am thinking a weak solution of baby bath wash, but that would require rinsing? I could use just water, but that is a bit dull Grin

Hi VQ! Haven't started using it yet but I'm planning on using cooled camomile tea (with honey if a bit sore) with a drop of lavender or tea tree essential oil and possibly a smidge of almond oil/olive oil.

I just had an ice cream tub full of plain water on the shelf and changed it/ topped up every few days. I used this for wees and poos until dd was potty trained at 2.4.

kelbells yours sounds good enough to drink, almost!

blacktea did you find water was enough? I am guessing so, as you used it so long. Perhaps I am making it more complicated than I need to.

Thank you for your feedback Smile

Yep, water was fine. Obviously sometimes I had to use more than one wipe to clean, but then you would with disposables too.

I had had good intentions of using a squirt of baby shampoo or some nice oils in there but when it came to actually using the wipes I realised that I was too lazy to bother!

GwennieF · 04/09/2012 13:10

I just used hot water from the tap in a spare top and tail bowl. I wouldn't use any kind of soap or detergent on my own 'bits' so definitely not on DD's. You could use some kind of essential oil, but even then you would have to dilute it alot as they can be quite strong!

ValiumQueen · 04/09/2012 16:24

gwennie true. I never use soap on my bits either otherwise I got sore. Duh! I can be daft! I worry about the wipes, even Huggins pure, as they are great at stain removal, and sometimes seem to hurt her bottom. They are just so easy though. I plan to use my little lamb liners as they are shite as liners, but so very soft and gentle. I think I will bite the bullet and use them for poos too

I just used water in a plant spray bottle, for both wet and poopy nappies. Worked fine!

blackteaplease · 04/09/2012 16:31

I bought some washable wipes, think they are lollipop ones, but then I had to make some more during an ill patch. You know those crappy baby towels you get? I cut one of those up and hemmed it, got about 12 wipes for free that way.

GwennieF · 04/09/2012 20:05

I tried cutting up some old fleece liners but they were pretty rubbish as wipes, they're not at all absorbant and at best they spread the poo around. The best wipes I found were hand sized, hemmed, pieces of terry towelling. I got them on Amazon, I think they were only a couple of pound for a pack of 6 and I got about 6 packs; they're still going strong (though not as white as they once were), after 3 years and 10 months of constant use on 2 bums!

If you live near an Ikea - the flannels below are pretty cheap....

I use the ikea flannels for faces and hands but they are a big bulky for bums I found.

ValiumQueen · 05/09/2012 11:50

The little lamb fleece liners are very fluffy and absorbent, which is why they are useless as liners. I am making my own liners out of proper fleece. I think I will cut up an old flannelette sheet and hem and see how they go.

Thank you for your advice. I already use flannels in the kitchen for grubby faces after meals.

I just used bits of cut up fleece and water.

SarryB · 09/09/2012 20:11

I use water (with a couple of drops of essential oil if I can be arsed to find it), in a tub, with terry towelling wipes.

AWomanCalledHorse · 13/09/2012 08:46

Water in a ice cream tub.
Poundland do a 6 pack of baby flannels, I've bought 6/7 packs of them & they're brilliant as wipes.

GobblersKnob · 13/09/2012 08:51

I started of with tea and honey and whatnot, but it smalls quite bad quite quickly and if it's too warm it goes mouldy.

Plain water is far easier.

I haven't used my wipes for their original purpose for many a year as mine are long out of nappies but I still keep the box of wipes in the kitchen and use them instead of kitchen roll Smile

ValiumQueen · 15/09/2012 10:20

horse I remember seeing those flannels years ago and thinking they were teeny, but now you say they would be ideal for bum wipes! Thank you!

I think I will use water. Thank you all for your advice.
