My poor Ds - Left in a right state today

I am up late researching bad nappy rash in toddlers ... A carer had a trial day today & took my ds (2.5 yrs) to the library (with my dad hanging around in the background for safety).

She either left poor Ds with a pooey nappy for hours or scrubbed at him so hard to get poo off, or didn't clean him properly so poo on even after changing... Or from what I can gather all three.

My poor darling was screaming in pain by the time I got to see him at 5, took me ages to work out what was the matter as it was so shocking he could be in so much pain so unexpectedly... When he finally let me take off his nappy, poo was encrusted all around his underside :( he cried for about an hour & a half which is so unlike him.

Then big mistake... At 9 ish I put cream on (e45 I thought sudocreme would stop air) after a few hrs of no nappy, but left it to soak in as rubbing it looked too sore, & as soon as it touched him he screamed again, such 'pain screams' and had to sit him in a luke warm bath for 40 mins to soak off the cream. he's woken up now crying as well.

What shall I do to make it heal quickly? Awful to see him like this

Vaseline better? Nothing at all? Thrush cream? Yoghurt? Baths? No baths? Savlon? Sudocrem? Dipping wipes in vinegar?

Hes never had bad nappy rash so a bit lost...

(Wibble. She was supposed to have experience of childcare)

Also very concerned about his emotional reaction to this, he already is constipated mostly cos he thinks it's 'messy', & was just working on that with him (& aid of lactilose), but now he's going to be so scared... Any tips?

It's been said already but just wanted to chip in with some praise for Bepanthen, it's cooling too so it (shouldn't) hurt to smear it on though don't rub it in. DS was very very poorly when he was new with a virus that caused non-stop diahorreah and it was the only thing we found to really help.

So sorry for your DS Sad

A vote here for Bepanthen as it sounds like it is raw, Metanium can be quite hard to put on with no pain as so thick, but its great if the skin is not broken.

Good luck with DS and search for helper x

Metanium is a wonder cream! Will nuke rash in hours!

Did metanium (hadn't seen people advising not to then!).

But first a morning of no nappies & fresh air, & an oat bath.

He's much better thank goodness, was so shocked last night (him & me!), & glad it's going as quick as it came.

Don't know how am going to reassure him it's ok to poo ever again though :(

Trazzletoes - my DS9 has eczema and we bath him in Camomile tea and also use Kamillosan (sp.) cream on him!

E45 cream can set my DS's eczema off and he screamed for ages when we have used it in the past. ( don't use it now for this reason ).

Two of mine really suffered from bad nappy rash when they were younger and we found that the only thing that helped was leaving the nappy off and only using warm water and cotton wool to wipe them.

No over the counter cream helped with their nappy rash and, unless they became infected and we would end up with cream on prescription from the doctor, we wouldn't use any cream.

Ds much better today (slightly disappointed wanted to put fluffy egg whites on him!).

Erm, can someone tell me if am being ultra sensitive, but it sort of feels like someone's taking the p*ss out of this thread on AIBU? Am hoping I am, please reassure me?
