dummy for one trip?

Ds will be 7 weeks when we have to do a ling journey. Approx 3 hours there and 3 back. I intend to feed him before we leave and stop at the services halfway there. He is ebf on demand do that will ne about right.
However ids is quite a sucky baby, I usually offer the breast but halfway down the motorway that won't be possible.
Will it be feasible to offer a dummy just for this trip and then take it away again? I will only offer it if he cries at a place we can't stop. Will he form an attachment to it after one day?
I don't want him to have it as a permanent fixture for various reasons, just personal choice.

Actually he's more likely to reject it/have it falling constantly out of his mouth if he's not used to it. I think dummies are a kind of commit-fully-to-having-a-dummy thing. You might want to keep your schedule fairly flexible in terms of stops or travel in the back with him (does he suck your little finger if he can't have breast immediately? DD used to do this and it would keep her happy for 20 minutes or so until I could feed her).

Definitely more likely to reject it than form an attachment. I chose not to use a dummy for dc1 but with dc2 I have changed my mind and am so glad I did, it's only used for sleep times and car journeys and it's lovely to have another option to calm him.

zuleika he will suck my finger, I was planning to paint my nails but I will give that a miss and sit in the back.
Thanks!

Imnotcute what made you change your mind with dc2? Ds is my dc3 and neither of the other two had a dummy, I have been close to getting one for ds a couple of times though.

With dc1 I spent hours feeding her to sleep and after a while it drove me mad! Dc2 happily goes to sleep with a quick feed then popping the dummy in, it's bliss. Also I found I got really stressed when dc1 screamed on car journeys. Buying a pack of dummies this time round has been v good for my sanity, but we did have to offer it several times before he took to it. My mil has always been v anti dummies (partly what swayed me 1st time) but now concedes we're being quite sensible to use them.
