Poo's at Pre School

I'm at a loss on what to do with ds 4yr next week. He has been toilet trained from 2.5 and no problems to speak of. Until now. he has been attending pre school since last September and in the last 4 weeks has been pooing in his pants. Whe I ask him why, he says "I don't like toilets, it's cold" or "it's an accident", neither of which is true. I don't know how to stop this happening when I'm not there to prevent it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Has he had a bad experience at the pre school toilets? might be worth chatting to the staff about it. If not then what about a sticker chart, he gets a sticker every day for a week and if he gets a full weeks worth without pooing his pants then he gets a small treat!I have used this tactic many times with DD for different things including wet pants!!HTHSmile

I'd also talk to the staff at pre-school about it. Has there maybe been a change of staff there or a change in routine? I remember my DS1 doing something like this not long after starting in reception (he was just turned 4 at the time) and it was because it was all new and he didn't know who to ask to go to the toilet and then, on another occasion, he had a supply teacher and was afraid to ask them. Sometimes also they leave it a bit late to ask or simply 'forget' to go because they're so engrossed in what they are doing.

The sticker chart idea would be worth a try as it would remind him that it's important to go to the toilet for such things! Good luck - there's nothing worse than your child coming home with yucky clothes each day is there?!

yeah i agree with a sticker chart on the wall in the toilet that way when he does a pooh you can praise him straight away and when he gets so many take him to choose something. My son used to hide behind the sofa or anywhere he could find when he wanted a num 2 and within 3 weeks he had it sussed. toys r us is a great place to take him all kids love it their.

Is he only having accidents at school, or at home, too?

My DS1 wouldn't let the teachers wipe his bottom, because they didn't like him going into downwards dog to be wiped. So he kept coming home with a slightly poopy bottom, thanks to incompetant wiping.
