Our usual groups aren't running this week, mums busy too.

WWYD with 1 year old for a couple of days?

Feel a bit pathetic for asking but usually there's things we can do

Cinema?

ihatethecold · 29/08/2012 11:01

Maybe not cinema. Thought you LO was yr 1 not 1 yr old.

cheekypickle · 29/08/2012 11:02

Swimming is a good idea, I've juts about mastered getting DD and I changed without too much screaming!

Cinema she wouldn't sit through

Garden? Just chilling and playing? I love watching my toddler just potter around, singing to himself. What did mums in the olden days do before every waking moment had to be filled with an 'activity'?

WorraLiberty · 29/08/2012 11:05

I never felt the need to do anything when my kids were 1yr old babies...apart from swimming now and then.

I just got in with what I wanted to do and they just got on with being babies...taking in the surroundings and babbling away etc.

cheekypickle · 29/08/2012 11:05

I'm not very good at just chilling and watching her play, I'm guilty of having to be busy all the time

What Raspberry said.

Kids do need to learn to amuse themselves...it's actually a valuable thing to learn.

If she's used to too much structure and having entertainment provided for her all the time, she'll probably drive you mad when she's older.

featherbag · 29/08/2012 11:17

My 11mo DS is currently sitting in an activity station watching Zingzillas, he's having a whale of a time! After dinner I'm going to take him to soft play for half an hour or so, will take 45 minutes to walk there and the same back so that's a good chunk of the afternoon gone. The soft play's in the same building as the swimming pool, might take him there too!

Schnarkle · 29/08/2012 11:22

Give her a ream of paper and a box of crayons. Get her some cars and let her drive them in the garden. Fine a puddle or patch of mud and let her go at it.

Greatdomestic · 29/08/2012 11:24

Mind used to love:

helping & watching me cook and bake from her high chair
swimming
bike riding
picnic in park - shout at the ducks etc
helping wash the car/low windows

SoldeInvierno · 29/08/2012 11:27

give her a paint brush, a bucket with water and ask her to paint the fence, garden wall....

scrablet · 29/08/2012 11:29

totally agree with letting them learn to amuse themselves a bit. This is not neglect, it is a valuable life skill. I used to love watching the 'baby plays babydays'.
Hope you can enjoy your couple of days OP.

shesariver · 29/08/2012 11:33

Really dont get this having to "do" something with kids all the time, whats wrong with staying in the house and just ..well relaxing!

GrendelsMum · 29/08/2012 11:38

How about 'watering the plants'? Always goes down a treat round here.

SandyMumsnet · 29/08/2012 11:38

Hi everyone,

We will shortly be moving this thread into Parenting as we think it's a better fit.

Thanks

I get it OP. Two weeks with no plans and not much prospect of contact with other people would make me feel quite loopy. I make sure I have something to do every day, even if it's just a trip out to sit in a cafe and have a cup of coffee.

My ideas: Swimming/library/cafe/meet a friend/walk to feed ducks/pop in to work (I'm on maternity leave)/

MyDogShitsMoney · 29/08/2012 11:46

How far past 1 year is she?

Only my DS was 1 three weeks ago and it's never entered my head to fill his days [bad mother emoticon]

I honestly have never thought about it.

He just sort of bumbles round the house with various toys and we read books. That's it. If the weather's nice we go to the park and he bumbles around with various toys and we read books outside.

Sometimes we go and visit people or they come here. Some times we go for a walk or pop into town or the supermarket. He's happy just looking at stuff and yelling lovely lovely lovely lovely at the top of his voice. (just totally outed myself to anyone who leaves near me!)

I'm genuinely interested in people's ideas as other than soft play, which he has been to once and quite liked but seemed fairly pointless at this age as he can't walk yet; and swimming, which I do want to try, I have no idea what a 1 year old would enjoy. Blush

beela · 29/08/2012 12:34

Walks to the park / nearby farm / woods / fields, with ball / picnic / ride-on / bread for ducks.

Or visit a friend with children and let them entertain each other while you natter supervise.

scrablet · 29/08/2012 13:02

couple of days, not weeks OP said, hairytale.
