My older children are keen to go swimming but wasn't sure of the guidelines for swimming with infants as dd is only 8 wks - did you wait until all jabs complete?

yes I did wait till jabs complete - HV recommended and so did swimming pool staff.

GDG · 14/03/2006 14:17

I waited till all jabs done but I think you can go after first 2 sets. not sure though

bubblez · 14/03/2006 14:18

Hi ellenrose, i dont know if there is any hard and fast rule but i waited until my dd was three months (not that i think it matters really).

I just found that she enjoyed baths more then so it was fitting, and tbh i was a bit of a worry mum Blush

I think GDG is right, but I waited til all 3 lots were done.

I went when DS1 was only about 3 months so maybe after 2nd set? Doc told me once the first set was done it was OK tbh.

Bozza · 14/03/2006 14:20

Went from 6 weeks with DD. Waited until after first jabs with DS - was about 10 weeks I think.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2006 14:25

You can go anytime, no need to wait for jabs

nailpolish · 14/03/2006 14:26

i would wait for jabs also, just to be on teh safe side

Too lazy for links from nhs direct:

Can I take my baby swimming after their jabs?
Babies can be taken swimming at any age. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t yet completed their course of immunisations.

The management of some leisure facilities suggest that babies shouldn’t go swimming until they have had all of their jabs. This advice dates back to the time when polio was common, and people were concerned it would spread in busy places like public swimming pools.

Sometimes babies experience side effects after the MMR vaccine. These are generally quite mild, and should not prevent you taking your baby swimming. Babies who are feverish, or who get a mild form of mumps in the weeks after the vaccine, may not feel up to swimming for a few days.

I think you can go whenever you want (am sure the Birth to 5 book says so).

Having said that, 25 week old DD hasn't been swimming yet Blush.

harrisey · 14/03/2006 17:27

I started swimming with all when 1st jags were done, as recommended by HV (back when I listened to HVs!!!!)

Gem13 · 14/03/2006 17:32

15 weeks with DS and (I think) with DD too. They'd have had one or two vaccinations.

Someone with a 6 or 8 week old was in one of our classes and he seemed too little. Both of mine loved it.

mckenzie · 14/03/2006 17:34

I was also told to go regardless of vaccines as they aren't being vaccinated against anything that they might catch in the pool.
