Just a wee question for parents of boys!

Feel a bit silly asking this, but what age do boys usually learn to wee standing up?!

Dp and I are acutely aware that ds1 doesn't have a male role model at home - although he's got lovely uncles and sees his Daddy - but not often weeing (although he does sometimes ask if he can watch - which puts a few of them off..!! Grin )

He's 4, and knows about weeing standing up but at the moment is refusing to try. So I'm doing my usual worrying thing about what's going to happen when he starts school and all the other boys are weeing standing up - but then I've got no idea if that will be the case!

OK, quick answers from DSs were, DS1 - sits down at school as well, DS2 - 'doesn't go at school' When asked why they sit down, I was told 'because I want to'

Fair enough.

dottydot-just a quick hijack-any luck getting a dress yet?

my DH doesn't really like the DSs watching him in the toilet (lucky him to have a choice Wink) but my DS1 copied his cousin (slightly younger but moreahead on the training front). Oce he'd done it once with cousin, he's never sat down again! I'm sure he will do it at some point - even if he copies someone at school

That should read "I'm sure your DS will do it at ssome point...." Smile

thanks all - I'll adopt a casual, relaxed attitude to ds's weeing from now on..!!

No dress yet - but am going shopping on March 30th! Smile

I childmind and was toilet training a little boy (only had a dd) after a few months I started asking him to shake it.

he stood there and said to his mum (at the end of the day) katy wants to shake my willy

I was so embarassed it sounded so rude

sunnydelight · 14/03/2006 19:38

"Shake, shake, like a snake" was the mantra in our house. DS1 thought it was hilarious so always remembered Blush Both my boys were weeing standing up at around 3, so much easier for those emergency situations!

When he does start weeing standing up - particularly if he's outside (eg caught short by the roadside) - you might have to tell him to "push" the wee out (else it'll end up all over his clothes/shoes!)

Ds is 3.3 and we not wee standing up for anything or anyone and I am not going to even try until he wants to.

He has seen Xp do it but he just doesn't like it. We tried to get him to wee standing up when out once but he had non of it.

I really don't care, I know he will do it when he's ready, but Xp thinks it's odd and tells everyone I taught him to wee sitting down and don't want him to stand up (not true).

I have 3 boys. 2 stand up and one sits (he is school age). personal preference I guess!

popsycalindisguise · 14/03/2006 20:23

DS1 is 3 years 8 months and sits down though he is very aware that some boys at bursery stand up and wants to stand up. He has tried but can't make himself wee.
