DS 10 and gadegt / TV time

Please could you take time in answering a couples of questions?
DS 10 watches about 6-7 hours tv a week, an hour after school and a dvd at the weekend. He has an ipod touch which he plays on between 7.30-8pm after he has ready for a bit. He is out of the house lots during the week - football, scouts and swimming.
Over the holidays he has been at holiday club and has come back saying that it is unfair that he can't watch tv whenever he wants too as he has found out that lots of kids have tvs and xboxs in room.
We were thinking of TV in room for Xmas present but what i wanted to know is whether his tv / gadget time is about right for his age?
He does his school work willingly when he comes home from school and his grades were a bit above average. My concern is that if he starts spending more time watching tv / gadget rather than reading / artwork / lego then it might lead to school work going down - am i being silly? Am I controlling his 'free' time too much? Do i need to back off? TIA

Sounds fine to me. I got a tv in my bedroom at 11 and never did any homework again if that helps.

You know how much TV, computer time, iPod, DS time your DCs have???Confused

Life is too short to follow them round like that. I thought Gina ford was for babies.

Not convinced about the idea of TVs in kids rooms I have to say. Sounds like he has got the balance just right now.

It's not like you have banned tv or computer games for goodness sake!

Dd has a tv in her room (nearly 10) but she is only allowed to use it at the weekends by watching a DVD on. Saturday night and a little bit on Sunday morning if we're not leaving the house early. I mainly got it for when she has friends over and they want to watch a DVD together.

Honestly? About 1.5 hrs per day during term, more like 3hrs in the hols. Mainly pc time, she doesn't really watch tv or films.

I don't agree with any gadgets in the bedrooms though. She currently reads before bed but I know that would stop if she had a computer up there.
