Water in cot?!

Hi there. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried leaving a tippee cup of water in the corner of the cot. Some nights ds (13MO) wakes for a drink of water and then goes back to sleep.
Is it possible? Advisable? If so which cup is best? Night light on?
Probably know the answer already....but would like to see the responses.
TIA.Smile

DS has had a (non-spill) cup of water in his bed since he was under a year. Just a tommee tippee no-spill one.

I had one in my first baby's cot. She was fine with it, I'd sometimes hear her sipping from it in the middle of the night through the speaker. But I haven't let my second baby have one. Not sure why.... I just suddenly got the fear that she might choke in the night (not even sure if that's poss, on liquid?!) But the minute that thought got in my head I couldn't get it out, so thought best not to..... Silly really!

DS has a tommee tippee non spill cup too.

I once let DD (aged just under 2) go to bed with a sippy cup of water next to the bed - when I went up to check her, the whole bed was soaked as she had decided to cuddle it like a teddy bear... I'm guessing you would need it to have some sort of valve (DD's was just a free flow tommee tippee with a fold down spout).

I think you can choke on liquid - it would worry me tbh but I'm funny about stuff like that.

We use a Nuby tippy cup. There is a teddy in the corner of the cot with his legs splayed and we put the cup between them so she doesn't knock it over and knows where to find it. She has a nightlight on too. I've always had water by my bed so it seems natural to me. I'd definitely hear her if she choked, I can't imagine she'd do it silently and she keeps me awake with her snoring.

We used Anyway up cups (still do in fact). They hardly leak (sometimes a little dribble, that's all) so the bed doesn't get wet. I like to have a drink of water next to the bed at night (hardly ever have any but sometimes I wake up gasping for a drink) so I reckoned I should give my children one too. (I don't use an Anyway up cup though!! Grin)

I once poured a whole pint of water all over myself in bed, so maybe I need an Anyway Up cup for myself - and another for DD Blush.

Thank you. I might give it a go? I have been told about the anyway up cups but looking for them online I am being charged £4.95 for postage. Any idea where I can buy them from in shops?

I used to let ds have one and he never had any problems - however after he graduated to a bed and started to have his water on his bedside table I read about children choking on water and so I haven't done the same with my younger child. Although she never asks for a drink in the night anyway - if she did I might reconsider the risks...

lol emsyj

Sorry, I don't know where you can get Anyway up cups these days. Apparently the manufacturer went bust at one point and the inventor was trying to get her own factory set up after that. It's been hard to get hold of them since. We did get some replacement lids from ebay fairly recently, not too pricey - have you looked on there?
