Baby unsettled in pram

DS is 14wks old. He enjoyed hid pram up until around 7 wks and now screams when in it. I have tried propping him up, putting his favourite toy inside, surrounding him with blankets so he feels secure, singing to him but he will only soothe if I take him out and comfort him. He wails again when put back inside. I tried the stroller attachment fr my chasis which did little to help and is too big for him anyways. I have a Babybjorn carrier too but he is getting too heavy for my back to cope with. I don't feel like I can go out as he scrams so badly he turns purple!! Any suggestions?

Try a sling like a moby wrap, it doesn't hurt your back, it's a better position for babies hips, and he gets to stay close to you - everyone's a winner :)

None of mine liked being in a pushchair until they could sit up by themselves.

Get a better carrier than the Babybjorn. A good carrier will let you carry toddlers. There may be a sling library near you where you can try out different carriers and find one that suits you and your baby. Try googling your town and sling library to see if one comes up. Or check out the sling section here for advice,

My daughter would point blank refuse to sleep in her pram or anywhere other than a sling when little so I just used to carry her in the sling when out and about. I got very good at eating cake while she dozed on me!

I agree with getting a better carrier than the Bjorn. I've just got an Ergo and it's brilliant - carrying a 9mo in it for an hour or so on the front is fine and there's no way I could do that with a BB.

Agree with the previous posters. We bought a babyhawk when in this position, - and now have LOADS of slings as they're addictive.

If you want a cheap prelovedone go to" FSOT-slings and things" on facebook :)

My dd was like this until we moved her to the buggy (4.5 months) she HATED her carrycot.

My DS hated his carry cot too, and we also moved him into his buggy asap, probably around 4-5 months. We used to use his maxicosi car seat on the chasis and he was happy in that - we just avoided any situation where he was likely to be in it for longer than a couple of hours at a time.

My DS also had a phase at around that age where he suddenly decided he hated his pram. I persevered by taking him for short walks in it never straying more than 5 minutes away from home incase he had a complete meltdown. Eventually, but I can't remember how long, he decided he like it again and has never looked back since. He is now 8 months old and just loves being in his pram. In fact he is quite a fidgety restless baby but tends to be quite calm and relaxed in his pram. So hopefully your DS is going through a similar phase. I would persevere if you can.

If you're walking a hyperactive Lab then a sling/carrier will definitely be easier!

I had exactly the same problem at around 7 weeks, he also didn't like the sling (ergo) and I remember sitting at home wondering if I'd ever leave the house again! :(
I did convert the travel system to chair mode and fully reclined it which helped slightly.
Is your DC soothed by white noise? I ended up buying a hairdryer recording track on iTunes and putting it on my phone and poping the phone in the pushchair with him so he could listen to it. It worked a treat and he is now happy in the pushchair at 16 weeks without any white noise.

My son is 5.5 months and we still use both the sling n the pram. Whenever we are out for more than a couple of hours, we take both things. When ds has just eaten and is all happy n alert, we carry him around in the sling, dragging the empty pushchair along. Once he starts getting cranky and tired, we put him in the travel system (full recline position) and use something to sooth him to sleep. This something ranges from the 'shush' sound to white noise. I have downloaded a free app for white noise. It does seem to help in drowning out other noises when out n about. Once he is asleep, we roam around with the empty sling. In the last month we tried hanging colorful toys in the pram and it did help somewhat. He stayed happy in the pram while awake but still not for very long. So we force him in the pram only if the weather does not permit the sling. I suppose he will b better in the pram now since he has started sitting up, but we are yet to try this.

MAM make incredibly good sling covers (they also do a coat with a special insert for wearing over a sling if you feel like springing for it) that are completely weatherproof. We used one for DS through the winter of 2010-2011 when we had snow on the ground for two months - it was great, and far warmer for a 3 mo than being in a buggy would have been. The sling cover has nice warm pockets for you too.
