Stinky Poo Smell When Tumble Dried

Notgrownupinmyhead · 24/08/2012 17:13

Ive cold rinsed twice, 60deg wash with and Fairy with lavender oil in softener drawer, cold rinsed again (the first of the cold rinses was done with vinegar and the second bicard). And as its raining out ive stuck them in the drier and they're starting to smell.

Any ideas to get rid of the smell??

TIA

Watching with interest. DD2 does the stinkiest poos ever. I do not tumble but often have to wash twice.

Honestly they are hideous, and she is teething. I think I am going to start putting a disposable on after her dinner as that is when it is most likely to happen. I love washables until I find a turd in one Grin

The other day DS2 had woke up and i left him for a bit cos i could hear him
Playing, he'd took the nappy off and rubbed his poo all over himself, walls, cot everywhere. 2 baths later. Thanks son! Barf.

Oh dear Grin A friend of mine with twins had that happen. They were still sharing a cot, indeed sharing everything! Thankfully I have not had that happen yet, and the Velcro tends to give the game away. No wonder he was quiet Grin

Yep. I should've put trousers on him. Delightful chap!

Ive found this but had an email back from Totsbots this AM and they said to use a full dose of powder.

Thank you notgrown

Ill strip them next time with a dishwasher tablet. It means however getting dressed and going to the shop. Confused

I'd do a stripwash - you don't need to use a dishwasher tablet though, just a full dose of washing powder. Some people also use Washing Up Liquid, but i've not.

May also be that your washing machine needs a service wash - can highly reccomend Aldi's washing machine cleaner - really does the job. Or soda crystals.

ValiumQueen · 27/08/2012 10:37

I would be concerned about the bubbles with washing up liquid.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 27/08/2012 10:59

I would be too. I stupidly used a full dose of napisan on its own and sudded the kitchen out! I do a 90deg wash (towels) every week so, would i still need to do a maintenance wash?

I used to do an occasional 90 deg wash, cleans the machine out as well.
Plus soak in water with a few drops of tea tree.
Plus increase water level or extra rinse.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 27/08/2012 12:28

Hi View, totsbots told me not to add anything to the wash. I take it you've not had any problems adding tea tree? Smile

ValiumQueen · 27/08/2012 12:31

view I think the latest advice is to not soak either. I used to soak with tea tree six years ago.

Viewofthehills · 27/08/2012 15:05

I had no trouble with tea tree, but I used to rinse very thoroughly. Also about 5/6 yrs ago.
I think a lot of modern washing machines are designed to work on less water so maybe don't rinse well enough. The only time I had a problem with smell was in a temporary house with a rubbish washer, it was also the only time she got nappy rash.
Smell equals bacteria, so you have to treat it with heat: hot water
or chemicals: Nappy San or tea tree.
I sometimes used to do a bio-wash even, followed up by a wash with plain water. If the nappies are smelly I don't think it is very pleasant to think of the next wash going in either.

Wow, I'm sitting here getting nostalgic about fluffy white nappies and fat, padded bottoms now Smile

Notgrownupinmyhead · 28/08/2012 17:47

Well, I stripped them with the dishwasher tablet and then dud a full wash with full dose of detergent and they only very slightly still smell in the drier so a good result. I might put 2 dishwasher tablets in next time to see if that rids the whiff completely.
