Can you recommend a good book for anxious ds to help him with his worrying?

9 yo ds is a worrier, especially around bedtime. DH and I have spent many hours talking to him trying to reassure him and help get things into perspective, but he seems to try anything, no matter how preposterous, to keep us in his room talking instead of settling down for sleep - he says the worries are always worse when he's on his own at night. I've seen a couple of similar threads recently and read some good advice there - as has been said before it's hard to know whether spending lots of time talking about it to try to reassure, or being brisk and distracting him is best.

He's got 2 sleep/relaxation CDs, one of which helps a bit and the other he won't listen to because he finds the soothing music too 'annoying'.

Just wondered if anyone knew of a good book aimed at his age group which explains worrying and offers techniques to help him deal with it himself.

Not sure of child friendly books but "Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway" by Susan Jeffers is a good adult book you may get some hints from.

No book suggestions, but have you tried a lavender pillow spray or some Bach Flower Remedy - Rescue Remedy? You can get it alcohol free.

Present it (whatever you choose) as a 'complete solution' to the worry of worrying and he should fall for it. Ergo - problem solved. (I'm not a great fan of lying to your dcs, but sometimes needs must)

Good Luck!

Thanks for your suggestions folks - will look into all of them! Tonight we are going to bed with a notebook to write down worries during the night, and an album of photos of happy times. He's also found Moon Safari by Air on his CD walkman helps him relax. So we'll see...

The Great Big Bag of Worries is good though he may be too old.
