Self Soothing- what are the choices?

Ok, so what are the choices when it comes to self soothing. I am not a fan of CC as DD seems to get herself a lot more worked up when crying in her crib to the point of actually making herself sick.
I can't seem to find any other actual methods though. We already to a routine, at 7pm we go up for a bath, have a feed, then try and get her down. Everytime she goes down even slightly awake she will fully wake up screaming. So we have to rock her to sleep then make sure she is completely out. This normally takes just under an hour to get her down.
When she wakes during the night though she is great, get up, changr her, feed her, then straight back to sleep.
So what other routines are they that I can follow to allow her to self soothe?
Thanks

What age is she? My ds is 6mo & 3 weeks and i have always fed and rocked him to sleep if he's still not sleeping once his bottle is finished i lay him in the cot and leave to to roll around and babble after a while i hear tired moans go pick him up and he usually drops off in 5 mins. He is gradually getting better at self soothing it used to take him up to 40 mins of rolling and babbling now 10 tops. I've also started putting him in his cot to sleep in the day when we're home and thats helped both day and night.

Like you i tried CC but it just upset him to the point of being sick and choking i found we were all really upset and stressed by it.

As above don't know how old your dd is but my dd is 16 months. I have always got her to sleep on me then transferred her to her cot. As she has got older this has become more difficult and we had to start getting her to get herself to sleep in her cot. We tried cc but it failed so in the end we put some cuddly toys at the end of her cot and lots of dummies and now I can put her in her cot after a bottle awake and leave her. She will play for a bit then nod off.
