Would you leave a sleeping baby alone in the house for 10 mins?

Even as I write the subject I'm thinking nooooo, I'll be shot down in flames. And I think thats probably right. But kind of want a sense check.
My third baby is usually asleep when I have to go and collect the middle one from nursery, about a quarter of a mile up the road. Takes ten mins.
I hate to wake the baby for the trip, left undisturbed she could nap much longer. I've tried to tell myself it is like going down the end of the garden for ten mins or similar. But it's not, getting in the car would be like crossing a line.
So is everyone reading this thinking, damn right silly woman, why are you even contemplating it...?! Hmmm, thought so.

No.

Can she have some of the nap in the pram or car?

FalseStartered · 21/08/2012 15:07

no, never

what if there was an accident, or traffic held you up?

charlottehere · 21/08/2012 15:07

No. can you change Dc's nursery finish time? main thing I would worry about is fire.

No.

GreyTS · 21/08/2012 15:09

No I really wouldn't, any chance baby can nap in the pram and then you can just walk out the door with sleeping baby. Otherwise maybe change nap time until after you get home, easier said than done I know dePending on age of baby

whattodoo · 21/08/2012 15:09

Damn right, silly woman. Why are you even contemplating this?

ScooseLooseAbootThisHoose · 21/08/2012 15:09

Of course not why would you take the risk?

TeaBaggy · 21/08/2012 15:11

put them down for their nap in the buggy/pram and walk to the nursery. that way you wont have to wake them up.x

MrsDL · 21/08/2012 15:11

OK that helps, thank you. main thing I would worry about is freak car accident or similar and nobody knowing where baby was. poor third child, spends her life being shlepped around when she wants to be asleep!

No I wouldn't, I'm a very relaxed parent but there is no way I would do this

Tee2072 · 21/08/2012 15:13

Put her in a slong for sleep and then just walk out the door with her?

uselfullife · 21/08/2012 15:13

What teabaggy said

Megalosaurus · 21/08/2012 15:15

Agree bonkers idea to leave baby, but other suggestions might work, putting baby into the pushchair to sleep then walking to nursery would get 3rd child the uninterrupted nap.

I have three children, and DC3 is always being dragged along to whatever DC1 and DC2 are doing. I know it'll change over time and eventually the balance will come but it doesn't stop me feeling guilty about it!

WelshMaenad · 21/08/2012 15:22

I'm with you that getting in the car seems like crossing a line. Ice left one of mine fast asleep in the cot whilst I've nipped to the corner shop for milk, for a few minutes tops, just as I've left them whilst pegging out washing at the end of our pretty long garden! But I couldn't get in a car and drive away.

matana · 21/08/2012 15:27

No. I even dislike leaving DS (21 mo) in the car for 2 mins in full view.

I was absolutely appalled with myself and DH two weeks ago for almost doing this accidentally. DH had been drinking but needed something from the shop. Forgetting DS was asleep upstairs he suggested i drive him to the shop to get what was needed (i was in my PJs and didn't want to get dressed!) We were on the way out of the door when i suddenly remembered about DS! DH walked to the shop while i stayed home. This is the first time since he was born that we've done this and neither of us can quite believe that we nearly left him alone!

No, no, and no. There are some good suggestions here to get around the problem though.

lolalotta · 21/08/2012 22:11

Ummmmm, no.

Nobhead · 21/08/2012 22:29

Nope, defo not. I wouldn't even pop to the shop across the road when DS was napping. What if you had an accident on the way there?

Flisspaps · 21/08/2012 22:33

No

fhdl34 · 21/08/2012 22:36

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 21/08/2012 22:36

Ask a neighbour to watch ds? As in come and stay in your house? < am lucky in that I have fab neighbours that do this for me when I'm desperate>

Yummymummyyobe1 · 21/08/2012 22:38

No. Think about it another way you are away for 10 minutes what happens if something happens back at home for example and god forbid there is a fire or somebody breaks in or baby becomes ill and needs urgent care. All I'm trying to say 10 minutes is far too long to leave a baby.

I panic when DP puts our DS1 into the car and then comes back into the house to get the buggy and I'm not in the car.
