Hi,

I'm moving to Spain near Malaga in a couple of weeks time with my husband and three young daughters 4, 2 and 1.

I am very excited/scared re our lifestyle change but would really like to hear from other mums who live in/near the area as I need and more importantly my daughters need to make some new friends !!!!!!

I am also keen to hear any advise that anyone may have for me to make out transition into spanish life as easy as possible.

Thanks to all

Hi Guys ...

Thanks for all the info and yep it is starting to scare me a little .....

I think I will look into spanish lessons for my 4 year old as I want to integrate her as smoothly into the system as possible .....

I met a woman in the local internet cafe when I was over finding our house and she has reccomended as school to me that her three children go too, they like mine couldn't speak spanish when they started and she said that the teachers were very helpful so that might be my best bet !!!

We only decided to move in January and if I had known I would have got the kids some lesson before now but it's too late now.

We havent exchanged on our uk house yet but it's likeley that we will be movning by then end of the month.

We are brining most of our belongings with us so hopefully that should make us feel more like we are at home that on holiday !!!

Glad to hear the weather is good for you all .....It's still freezing here !!!

Take care

Hi Knighty - I've just seen your post! I live in Malaga itself and have 2 sons. One is 18 months and the other is about to turn 5. Although my DH is Spanish, at home we actually speak English. Everything else is in Spanish so DS1 has not had any problems at school etc. I do agree that your 4 year old will need some lessons to start with though and the amount of support you may get certainly depends on each school. I am pretty sure that where I live for example there would be none!

Good luck with the move - Alhaurin is pretty nice and just down the road from Malaga! Keep in touch!

Hi Costa Mum ....

Nice to hear from you ....

As soon as I get over I'm going to start looking into lessons for all of us .....I'm not too sure My 2 year old will get much out of any but my husband and I will certainly need some and I think my 4 year old is old enough to sit down and listen, she love learning about things !!!!

We are still waiting on a date for the move bu I'm hopeing that we may get some news this weeks ??? SO will let you know how I get on, I just want to get on with it now and move !!!

When did you move to spain ??

Do you know of any mother and baby/toddler groups ??

In the uk there are loads of singing/drama/activity classes you can take kids too ....Do they have any locally to you ??

Take care

Hello - its coming up to 3 years here in Malaga and 6 in Spain! I believe there are a few mother and baby/toddler groups around the coast - mostly near Fuengirola and Marbella but I haven't been to any. My son's school does offer extra activities - he's in the theatre group at the moment!

There is a free magazine that comes out a few times a year over here called Costa Kids which is quite good and lists all the kiddie activities etc that there are around the coast. Certainly worth having a look for that.

bye for now!
