I must admit I don't like DS at the moment, he's nearly 2.5 years old - whinges and whines continually, wants of course everything he can't have and even if I gave it to him he wouldn't want it anymore. He won't eat. He won't be nice lol.

Please tell me I'm not alone and for gods sake don't tell me it gets worse before it gets better!

My DS2 will be 3 on the 21st of this month & he is a beast atm!
He has tantrums all the time when he doesn't get what he wants, bit his 6 year old brother today, is being a nightmare to toilet train, pulled every wipe out of a packet of wet wipes last night, which I found out about when I spotted the mountain of wipes under his quilt, got hold of his brothers marker pen & drew all over his legs & has learnt the word "No" in a big way!!!
Bless him!

I've just registered on Mumsnet - and this is my first 'message'. I saw this topic and have just read what you all have to say and am seriously relevied to discover my DD is not the only 2.5 yr old to have frequant personality shifts! Some days she is an absolute angel - expecially in company - so when I tell people she has been a demon today they don't beleive me! It's like there are two of her and they swap places on a regular basis - one nasty and one nice. She can be defiant, stubborn, willful, sooo independant, wants to do everything her own way and has a major floor thunping earsplitting tantrum when she doesn't get her way. I have a 7yr old son - he has always been an angel - never had temper tantrums - always did as he was / is told - never have to tell him off, but DD - oh my - what a shock! And what frustrates me most is I don't understand why she is like it. I work 34 hours a week - so feel guilty and feels she is behaving like this to get back at me - to punish me but my husband assures me not. Any one feel the same? any one understand why the personality shift?

My dd2 was 2 in november and is just like this - the tanrtrums!!! She is worse than my other 2 were at this age. I think its frustration as she sometimes just cant tell me what she wants, but a lot of the time it is sheer bloody mindedness!
She is a little angel when she wants to be, she jujst doesnt want to be very often.
I was told by a friend the terribe 2's give way to the 'thrawn threes' (thrawn being good scottish word for stubborn and awkward) followed by the effing fours, but IME the 2's are by far the worst, at least as they get olderbribery works a bit more!

My 2.5 yr old is a perfect...it's my nearly 7 yr old that drives me insane.

Verytiredmum · 16/03/2006 15:50

Mine too, mine too!! I'm having a ghastly day and have sat down at the computer to regain some sanity. He's 2.6 and was sweetness and gentleness and light until about 2 months ago. Now he's being ghastly in all of the ways described below (he's an articulate version, so doesn't need to repeat himself over and over, instead he can come up with 14 different logical reasons why I am wrong, concluding with "stupid woman" muttered under his breath!!!!!)

Ds1 started the terrible twos at 2.5 too, and kept going until 5.5!!! Sorry for those hoping for an early conclusion. However, he's much, much, much nicer recently - just as ds2 has really got going!!

Happy days!

People who understand - Hooray! I'm not going mad!

Ladytophamhatt - how Bizzarre - my 7yr old is my angel! (Thank god I have one - otherwise I'd be sectioned!)

MoggyMummy · 16/03/2006 15:55

Jaynerae by chance is it your husband's birthday today? I ask becasue I recognize the name Smile

Orinoco · 16/03/2006 21:43

jaynerae - I'm glad I'm not the only one with two children who change places when I'm not looking!!We were in a cafe the other day, and dd2 was doing her baby impression - grunting, pointing at what she wanted to eat, playing with her food and generally refusing to talk. The old lady sitting next to us kept smiling at her, but her chin dropped to the floor when this previously uninteligible child said very precisely "mummy, I can see a curly 'cuh' and an 'ah' but what's the one before the 'eh' Grin

Jaynerae · 17/03/2006 09:59

Moggymummy - no not husband's Birthday yesterday - must be a coincidence.

Orinocco and Verytiredmum - good to hear there are more of us suffering mums(if you know what I mean!) Dissapointed it could last until 5.5 yrs - I don't think I'll survive!
Are any of your picky eaters? DS is great - but DD is dreadful - will eat something one day - next time you offer it - she say's 'don't like it' - really struggle to think of thinks she will eat sometimes - I am sure this adds to her bad moods - as she would rather go without than give in ! And I get cranky when I am hungry - so she must too. I know being tired affects her aswell. I usually put her to bed between 7pm and 7.30pm she gets up between 6.30am and 7am and usually has a nap from 1pm to 3pm. Does any one think I should put her to bed earlier - I wonder if she is not getting enough sleep?
